“And from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, “Butwhich seek ye first the ofwise God, and are able tokingdom make thee his righteousness; and all these things shall unto salvation through faith be added unto you.” – Matthew which is in Christ Jesus.” 6:33 2 Timothy 3:15
The Word Saves! We read in the Bible, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). Scriptures are passages or parts of the Bible. Whether just a verse or the entire book, both are correctly referred to as scripture, Holy scripture, or the Word of God. This may sound simple, but it is so important- God gave us His word, the holy Bible, to communicate with or speak to us. He tells us about Himself: Who He is and what he likes and doesn’t like. He tells us about some of the things He’s done, like creating everything in the universe and making man. Also, about His becoming a man so that he could die for us to take away our sins and save us. We learn most of what we know about God from the Bible. Another very important thing he tells us through His word is how to be saved. In our focus verse, the Apostle Paul reminded Timothy, a young minister that worked with him, that he had known the Holy Scriptures from the time he was a child and that they were “able to make (him) wise unto salvation.” In John, chapter three, a Jewish leader named Nicodemus came to Jesus to find out more about God. Jesus told him that he needed to be “born again” to be able to enter the kingdom of God. This new birth was message was clarified on the day of Pentecost when Peter declared, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38). Family Prayer: “Jesus, thank You so much for Your precious word and thank You for clearly showing us what we need to do. Help each of us to understand and obey it. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
