Spring is getting ready to burst into Summer Although the winter was not a snowy one, we are all looking forward to the warm weather. Spring flowers were great but always seem to come and go too quickly. Even though the season is Spring, The Yardstick is already receiving this year’s Christmas and Halloween. Remember Quilters Quest Shop Hop is just around the corner. Starting Thurs, May 31, and continuing until Sun, June 3rd. This is our 10th anniversary and we are 11 shops strong. Stop in at any of the 11 shops to purchase your passport to fun, still only $5. The shops are Adirondack Quilts, Flying Geese Fabrics, Foofsique Quilting Emporium, Gloversville Sewing Center, The Joyful Quilter, K.C. Framing and Fabrics, Log Cabin Fabrics, Quiltbug, Pumpkin Patch, Style Fabrics and The Yardstick. This summer we will be having a Floriani Stabilizer event coming up on either August 17th or 18th from 10-2. They are planning a whole new event with new products to show and explain. We are fortunate to have Darlene Pollack coming back as our educator. We are taking reservations for this event, the price is still $30. We will be sharing more information in the near future. Stay tuned. Hoopsisters Mystery Quilt will be starting in June. Go to the Hoopsisters’ website and sign up to download a clue every week. It is a fun project to do during the long hot summer. Piece, embroider, and quilt in the hoop to create the mystery quilt 2012.

June – August 2012 Quiltsmart Mondo Bag Tues, June 5 10-1 or 6-9 With Betsy Beginner - $18 + supplies Mondo Bag is a simple technique, large bag! Construction is as simple as placing squares on fusible interfacing which will sew up fast. Intersections match effortlessly as the squares are attached to the interfacing and will not shift during construction. The bag could be a travel bag or a diaper bag. Pattern required. Party with Patrick Club Tues, June 12, July 24, August 7 10-12 With Betsy Beginner - $45 per year or $5 per month Betsy our resident applique specialist teacher you how to create beautiful applique. If you have not heard of Patrick Lose, he is an artist, fabric designer, pattern designer who creates a new project each month. The object is get together once a month to work on a new special small appliqué project and as a bonus you receive some recipes. The appliqué project can be created by hand or machine. Participants take turns bringing a snack to share. Floriani Software Club Sun, June 17, July 22 1-3 pm With Nancy Beginner - $15 per month Join Nancy each month to learn to get the most from your embroidery software purchase. There will be a new exercise presented each month. This hands-on class is a good way to learn. 10 Minute Block Quilt Thurs, June 21 10-1 or 6-9 With Betsy Beginner - $18 + supplies This is a great class to make a quick and easy quilt. The quilt is pieced entirely of 10” square of fabric. The center of the block is 3 dimensional. There are several different layouts to choose from. Book required.
Double Twist Table Runner Tues, June 26 10-1 or 6-9 With Betsy Beginner - $18 + supplies Using the Lil’ Twister tool and a variety of charm square you can create an attractive runner. This table runner lends itself to a lot of variations. It could be a single or triple twist table runner. The little flange could also be placed flat as an inner border. Book Required. Beginner Quilting (Quick Trip) Start to finish Thurs, July 26, August 2 10-1 or 6-9 With Betsy Beginner - $25 + supplies During the 2 weeks of class you will create a quilt. Quick Trip is a variation of the traditional Trip around the World quilt is made up of rectangles. The basics for planning, cutting, piecing, marking and quilting will be covered in this class. Join us for guidance through the whole process to complete your quilt ready to take home and enjoy. Book required. Machine Appliqué Basics Tues, July 31 10-1 or 6-9 With Betsy Beginner - $18 + supplies Join Betsy on a journey into beautiful machine appliqué. Learn the basic techniques you will use for a lifetime! This class offers the chance to sample several different kinds of fusibles and stabilizers. Learn Betsy's tips for even buttonhole stitch and smooth satin stitch appliqué. Make a lovely block, suitable for quilting and framing. Paper Piecing Basics (That Spikey Thing) Wed, August 15 10-1 or 6-9 With Betsy Beginner - $18 + supplies Paper piecing is a wonderful method to produce accurate blocks even if you are a beginner. This class will teach you the basics while making a small quilt. See how easy it is to piece a block with lots of points. Then you will be able to soar through any project you choose to do. Book required. Kids Quilting Camp Tues- Fri, Aug 21, 22, 23, 24 10 -12:30 or 1:30 - 4 With Betsy Youth 8-13 - $125 Sewing is becoming more and more popular. It is a great skill to learn. During this week long class, the kids will learn to cut and piece a lap sized quilt. The Class fee covers all supplies, instruction, snack and use of a sewing machine. Sign up early - this is always a popular class. The participating students will be eligible to purchase a machine at special student prices.
