This deed made the 8th day of June 1857 between David Johnson and Susan E. Johnson his wife of the one part and David H. Whitlock of the other part. All of the State of Virginia and the County of Cumberland. Witnisseth that in consideration of the sum of twenty three hundred & twenty three dollars paid to said Johnson by said Whitlock. The said David Johnson and Susan E. Johnson his wife do grant unto the said David H. Whitlock with general warranty all of their rights, title and interest in and to a certain tract of land lying in the County of Goochland and State of Virginia containing by recent survey two hundred two (202 acres) being a portion of the larger tract recently conveyed to said Johnson by John Thompson Jr and bounded as follows ***. Beginning at the corner pointers with Wm G. Brown S64 W. 204 poles to white oak and pointers, thence S 32 'l2 E. 229 poles to three white oaks, thence S 53 E. 139 'l2 poles to old field pointers thence n 40 E. 74 'l2 poles to popular, thence N 58 'l2 W 178 poles to black gum and pointers, thence N 18 E. 224 poles to the beginning. Cumberland County (set) We Mayo B. Carrington and Edwin Harrison justice of the peace in the said County and State of Virginia, do certify that Susan E. Johnson the wife of David Johnson whos names are signed to the writing an*****, bearing date on the 8th day of June 1857 personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and being by us examined (privately) and apart from her husband, and having had said writing fully explained to her. She the said Susan E. Johnson acknowledged the said wl"iting to be her act, and declared that she willingly executed the same and that she does not wish to retract it.
