WELCOME TO BRIDLEWOOD PC! We are delighted that you have joined us today. It is our prayer that you will be richly blessed as we worship together. Visitors are encouraged to stop by the Visitor’s Table at the back of the Sanctuary and sign our Guest Book and someone will be there to greet you, provide information about our church and answer any questions you may have about our activities and programs. As the Offering is received we invite you to fill out the “CONNECT” card in the pocket of the chair in front of you and place it on the Offering Plate so that we can greet our neighbours after the service, If you would like to keep in touch electronically with events and activities at this church please include your email address. This morning’s sermon (and previous sermons) can be accessed from our website at www.bridlewoodpc.org. We invite you to join us downstairs after the service for coffee and warm fellowship to give us a chance to get to know you better.

GATHERING Prelude Welcome and Call To Worship Choral Introit – “O Come Immanuel” Candle Litany and Lighting Advent Unison Prayer (by Henri Nouwen) Come Thou Long Expected Jesus Everlasting God Prayer of Confession Good News and Passing of Peace You Are Holy (Prince Of Peace) WORD Responsive Scripture Reading (Psalm 119:113-120) I have done what is just and right; do not leave me to my oppressors. Give your servant a pledge of good; let not the insolent oppress me. My eyes long for your salvation and for the fulfillment of your righteous promise. Deal with your servant according to your steadfast love, and teach me your statutes. I am your servant; give me understanding, that I may know your testimonies! Scripture – 1 Corinthians 10:23-33 ( Bob Morris) It is time for the Lord to act, for your law has been broken. Therefore I love your commandments above gold, above fine gold. Therefore I consider all your precepts to be right; I hate every false way. ““Advent marks something momentous: God’s coming into our midst. That coming is not just something that happened in the past. It is a recurring possibility here and now. And thus, Advent is not merely a commemorative event or an anniversary, but a yearly opportunity for us to consider the future, second Advent – the promised coming of God’s kingdom on earth.” ~ excerpt from Watch For The Light
ADVENT UNISON PRAYER Lord Jesus, Master of both the light and the darkness, send your Holy Spirit upon our preparations for Christmas. We who have so much to do seek quiet spaces to hear your voice each day. We who are anxious over many things look forward to your coming among us. We who are blessed in so many ways long for the complete joy of your kingdom. We whose hearts are heavy seek the joy of your presence. We are your people, walking in darkness, yet seeking the light. To you we say, "Come Lord Jesus!" Amen.
COME, THOU LONG-EXPECTED JESUS (BofP #114)
Come, Thou long-expected Jesus, Born to set Thy people free; From our fears and sins release us, Let us find our rest in Thee. Israel’s strength and consolation, Hope of all the earth Thou art; Dear desire of every nation, Joy of every longing heart. Born Thy people to deliver, Born a child and yet a King, Born to reign in us forever, Now Thy gracious Kingdom bring. By Thine own eternal Spirit Rule in all our hearts alone; By Thine all sufficient merit Raise us to Thy glorious throne.

HARK! THE HERALD ANGELS SING (W&C # 133)
Hark! the herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King; Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!” Joyful, all ye nations, rise, Join the triumph of the skies; With th’ angelic host proclaim, “Christ is born in Bethlehem!” Hark! the herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King.” Christ, by highest heav’n adored; Christ, the Everlasting Lord! Late in time behold Him come, Offspring of the Virgin’s womb: Veiled in flesh the God-head see; Hail th’incarnate Deity, Pleased as Man with men to dwell, Jesus, our Emmanuel. Hail the heav’n-born Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of Righteousness! Light and life to all He brings, Ris’n with healing in His wings. Mild, He lays His glory by, Born that man no more may die, Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give them second birth.
