Learn what is Expected of You This begins with actually reading your Student Handbook, you might be amazed at how much you will learn. Your advisor is here to help guide you through the curriculum, but it will help you to learn the requirements, course offerings, and where to find pertinent information (online bulletin and schedule of classes). 3. Attend Every Class It’s essential, end of story. 4. It’s not enough to Attend, You Must Participate Class participation will help you to gain a better understanding of the material and also help your professor to get to know you.

6. Discover Your Best Practices for Learning Since you’re going to be an MU nursing student, you undoubtedly are used to getting good grades. Be open to the idea that the methods you used to earn those grades in high school, may need some “tweaking” when you get to college. Find out where the best place for you to study is…your room, the library, at a friend’s. Do you study better in a group or alone? You may find that you learn differently in this environment than you did in high school. 7.Study Often In high school, you may have only needed a few days to study for an exam, but now you will need to study every day. This may sound like a lot, but once you take your first Biochem exam, you will understand. 8.Utilize Your Resources MU is a onestop-shop. Never in your life will so many people be available to help you, take advantage of this humongous opportunity. Having trouble writing a paper? Visit The Writing Center. Need help studying for Anatomy? Schedule a tutoring session with Educational Services. Feeling overwhelmed? Talk with someone at the Counseling Center. All of these resources are at your fingertips, make sure you get the help you need. 9. Find a Balance College life will offer you an incredible amount of freedom. Make smart choices. Figure out what you need to do to keep yourself healthy, and make sure you do it. Make the time to do things you enjoy, consider joining a student organization. Take naps. Eat well. Free pizza night is great, 7 free pizza nights in a row…not so much. Stress can really take a toll on your body, take care of it.
