2017-18 Akron Women’s Basketball Game Notes | Game Six vs. Maryland

Game Recaps AKRON DOWNS WINTHROP, 69-43, AS SEFICK TIES CAREER-BEST 20 POINTS In front of a crowd made up of nearly 1,000 fifth grade students from the Akron public schools on Education Day, redshirt junior Megan Sefcik (Austintown, Ohio) tied her career-high scoring 20 points and lit up the three-point line as the Akron women's basketball team came out on top over Winthrop, 69-43, Tuesday morning at James A. Rhodes Arena.

ZIPS DROP SEASON OPENER TO BUCKNELL, 63-52, DESPITE 19 POINTS FROM SEFCIK The University of Akron women’s basketball team trailed Bucknell by five points with three minutes to play, but the Bison ended the contest on a 9-3 scoring run in the final minute of the game to defeat the Zips, 63-52, on Nov. 5 in Lewisburg, Pa.

En route to tying her career high in points, Sefcik shot 7-of-14 from the floor and 4-for-9 from beyond the arc, with all four triples and 14 points coming in the fourth quarter. The Zips guard also hit a pair of free throws, tallied three steals, and grabbed a rebound in 22 minutes of play. Senior Greta Burry (Lakewood, Ohio) recorded her second consecutive double-digit effort with a 10 point, three rebound performance. In back-to-back games, 11 of the 12 Zips players to check into the contest recorded a basket. In total, the Zips reserves scored 29 of Akron's 69 points.

Redshirt junior Megan Sefcik scored a team-high 19 points after catching fire from long range. The Akron guard went 6-for-13 from the floor and drained five of her six buckets from beyond the arc.

EARLY LEAD HELPS ZIPS DEFEAT EASTERN KENTUCKY, 62-45. The University of Akron women's basketball team jumped out to a 20-point lead at the halftime break and never looked back as the Zips defeated Eastern Kentucky, 62-45, on Nov. 22, at James A. Rhodes Arena. A pair of Zips scored in double-figures, as senior Greta Bury (Lakewood, Ohio) led the way with a team-high 14 points, while redshirt junior Megan Sefick (Austintown, Ohio) added 10 points.
