Intercollegiate Athletics Policies, Procedures and Plans (3P) Manual Section: Student-Athlete Welfare – Conflict Resolution Last revised and updated and revised June 10, 2016 NOTE: Copies of all “Student-Athlete Welfare” sections of the PPM will also be found in the Western “Student-Athlete Handbook.”

Conflict Resolution On occasion, a student-athlete and a coach may have a general disagreement or conflict of a more serious nature that may not be addressed by the Western State Athletics “Established Standards and Discipline Policy.” There are times that there can be a more serious conflict that matters and the other party may not be aware that a problem exists. If this happens and it matters to the student-athlete, then initiating communication to resolve the conflict or problem is important. The vast majority of player/coach problems are resolved by the player and the coach thoroughly communicating with one another. If, for some reason, the conflict does not resolve itself on a matter of a more serious nature and it matters to the student-athlete, then the student-athlete may communicate their concerns to the Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations and Compliance (AADIOC). In certain instances, where a student-athlete may feel more comfortable, they may instead communicate their concerns to the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR). If the matter is not resolved to the satisfaction of the student-athlete and the student-athlete would like to move forward with the process they can request the appeals process outlined previously in the “Established Standards and Discipline Policy” (see “Appeals”).
