GCYC - All-Star Player Interest and Commitment WHAT IS ALL STARS?          

"All-stars" as a sports term refers to individual players named to an "all-star" roster or team representing the top performers during and before the end of the baseball season. All-Star Tournament play begins immediately after the GCYC regular season concludes and can continue through the summer. Each age group sends 12-15 players into All-Star Competition. The primary goal is to win games and to put the strongest available team on the field A player can only be nominated to participate in the age group that they fall into as of April 30 th. For example, if the player’s age is 10 on April 30th then they can only participate on the 10U All Star team, no exceptions. All-Star Tournaments start with District Play and can continue into State and Region. All Star Tournaments can also include open tournament prior to and after District Tournaments. All-Stars requires a significant amount of player and parent time. There will be uniform and travel costs that the Parent will be responsible. The primary goal is to win games and to put the strongest available team on the field. Without player/parent full cooperation, the team’s chances of succeeding are greatly reduced.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PLAY ALL-STARS All players are age eligible to play in a division in which they participated except in rare cases where players are allowed to play down. For example, an 11 year old playing 10U league is not allowed to be nominated for the 10U All-Star team. A player must play in at least ½ of his leagues scheduled games.

WHEN DOES THE “ROAD TO ALL-STARS” BEGIN? The "Road to All-Stars" actually begins when the season starts. Throughout the season, players start defining themselves through their performance, attitude and leadership qualities as potential all-star candidates. Players are selected to teams according to the criteria which is listed below.

COMMITMENT All-Star play requires a post season commitment from both the player and the parents. Everyone who is to be considered for an All Star team must understand the level of participation and costs and travel that is required.

DURATION OF ALL STAR PRACTICE AND TOURNAMENTS All players are expected to be available for the full schedule of practices and games starting as early as the first day following their last game, usually the first week of June. The district tournaments begin at the end of June or early July at the latest. Regional and State tournaments follow weekly after the district tournament, assuming the team wins the tournament.
