Dear Parents Re: Year 10 Exam Weeks 13 June – 24 June The purpose of the exam weeks is to introduce a number of important skills: revision, exam techniques, examination protocols, managing personal time and working under exam conditions. Students will be examined or assessed in every subject that they study and each subject area will hold an exam or assessment during exam week. English, Maths and Science exams will all be held in the school hall. A copy of the Year 10 examination timetable for core subjects is attached. The remaining subjects will take place in their timetabled classroom and timings will be agreed by their classroom teacher, a timetable of when these exams are going to take place will be given to students. Outlined below are the topic / skills which require revision for each subject area, along with the equipment that your child needs to bring with them for the examination. In addition you should find a letter which details the arrangements for English language and maths. It is useful for your child to practise their revision techniques and you may want to support them in organising a revision timetable. Subject examination details: Art The students will complete the final piece for their Land and Sea project in exam conditions. BCS Students will sit a GCSE mock exam paper based on topics covered this year. These include customer relations, legal framework, ethics and social responsibilities and different types of business organisations. Computing Students will be examined by a written paper on the theory covered this year. The topics will be: computer systems, computing hardware, software, networks, using binary, representation of data and programming. The Year 11 GCSE revision page on the college website has resources to support revision for the exam. Design Technology Students will complete a written exam appropriate to the subject discipline. Drama Students will be sitting a GCSE mock exam based on the work covered this year. English Language and English Literature Please see details regarding this exam in the accompanying letter – Year 10 Exam Week English Language and Maths. To prepare for this exam the students should revise from their exercise books and use the following link. https://sites.google.com/a/oathall.org/year-10-english-revision/1-power-and-conflict In addition the BBC Bitesize website has a range of useful revision material. Geography Prior to the exam, each student will have a lesson on how to revise and they will be given appropriate revision materials. The content covered in the exams will reflect the topics covered this year – coastal zone, restless earth History Students will complete two exam questions on civil rights in the USA, focusing on the events at Little Rock High School in 1957 and on the achievements of Martin Luther King in the 1960s. Revision materials will be put on Insight. Languages ( German, French and Spanish) Students will be given past papers at Foundation Tier. To revise for this, students should use their vocabulary booklets and/or revision guides. There are also examples of past papers on the exam board website www.aqa.org.uk Mathematics Please see details regarding this exam in the accompanying letter – Year 10 Exam Week English Language and Maths. Students should use the PIXL app to support their revision. Music Students will complete a 50 minute listening, aural and theory of music test which covers all the set works studied this year. Students will be provided with detailed revision notes. PE GCSE students will complete a 50 minute theory examination that will test students on all aspects of the theory syllabus covered in year 10. Students will be advised by their teacher which aspects of the syllabus will be tested. Photography The students will complete the final piece for their People’s Project project in exam conditions. RE All students will be expected to revise for and complete a formal exam in religious studies. Student should use their exercise books to guide them in their revision. The content covered in the exams will reflect the GCSE topics covered this year. Science Students will take their final Core Science GCSE mock either Biology, Chemistry or Physics. will need to ensure they have brought all normal equipment, including a calculator. The test will be marked by their teacher and returned with a grade. If you have any questions please contact your child’s subject teacher for further information.
