HEAD OF DEPARTMENT Miss A Brogan GROUPING POLICY COURSE CONTENT: Completion of two controlled assessments and a practical exam at the end of the course. What will my child learn? There are compulsory areas of study which are interrelated, nutrition and the consumers’ choice, nutritional properties of food, food hygiene and safety. What will homework look like? Various forms of research. Preparation to produce. Practical skills practice. Health & Safety and how to use various tools or equipment. What enrichment opportunities are available? After school clubs & catch –up sessions. Involvement in a local Hotel. Local and regional competitions. ASSESSMENT How will my child’s work be assessed? This course is split into 2 controlled assessments and 1 written exam. Controlled Assessment 1; This is worth 20% of the final grade. It will take place in Year 10. Students are expected to create a portfolio of evidence and complete a practical exam. Controlled Assessment 2; This is worth 40% of the final grade. It will take place in Year 11. Students again will be expected to produce a portfolio of evidence and complete a practical exam. Written exam; This is worth 40% of the final grade. This is a 1 ½ hour written exam which will take place at the end of Year 11.
