ABOUT
SENIOR DAY: Just a reminder that this Sunday, April 13, the Toros will celebrate “Senior Day” and honor Daniel Hartman, Clay Young, Jeff Phillips, Chris Hunter, David Leyva, and Martin Conde in a pregame ceremony. AROUND THE CCAA THIS WEEK: With the conference season winding down and the Toros fighting for that last spot in the CCAA tournament, here’s a look at the other series going on this weekend. Cal State Monterey Bay @ Cal Poly Pomona (CPP leads 1-0) #15 Chico State @ #12 UC San Diego (UCSD leads 1-0) Cal State San Bernardino @ San Francisco State (CSUSB leads 1-0) Grand Canyon University @ #2 Sonoma State (SSU leads 1-0) Cal State L.A. - No games scheduled CHANGE IS GOOD: Head coach Murphy Su’a made a small tweak to the Toro lineup a few weeks ago that has resulted in the Toros playing some of their best ball of the season. In the final game of the series at Southern Utah, Daniel Hartman was inserted into the DH spot and Eduardo Gomez was put at third, and in the five games since then the Toros are a perfect 6-0 with Hartman and Gomez in their newly-appointed spots. During the stretch Gomez has had a hot bat, hitting at a .500 clip, with a .550 on base percentage and no errors on defense. Hartman, who was just hitting .289 with two RBIs in the 14 games prior to the change, has hit .391 with five runs driven in in the five games since the switch. WEST REGION RANKINGS: Here is a look at the top 10 teams in the latest West Region Poll. The top eight teams qualify for the NCAA Regional Tournament, held on May 15-18. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. t7. t7. 9. 10.

The Toros hold a 36-28 series advantage over the Warriors and post a 23-7 mark at home since the teams first met on February 2, 1992. However, CSUS has come on strong as of late, winning 12 of the last 20 meetings, including a four-game sweep last season in Turlock. In the series last year CSUDH was outscored 43-26.

THE
The Warriors started the season on a roll, winning 21 of their first 26 games and climbing into the national rankings after sweeping Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State, and taking three of four from Cal State L.A. and Chico State. However, since then the wheels have seemingly fallen off the well-oiled Warrior machine as the pressure of making the CCAA tournament and the NCAA regional caused CSUS to drop three of four in a non-conference series to Northwest Nazarene, and then post a 3-5 CCAA record en route to falling out of the national poll. Despite the slide the Warriors are still sitting in the third spot in the CCAA, but the Warrior offense has not lived up to its namesake as ranks last in the CCAA in batting average (.266) and times struck out (280), and is in the bottom four in slugging percentage (.404), on base percentage (.366), hits (314), homeruns (19), and total bases (477). With the lack of offense the hurlers have done all they can to keep CSUS in the race, ranking 3rd in the CCAA in ERA (4.08) and second in opposing batting average (.259). On the season CSUS is 11-2 in one-run games and sports an 8-2 record against southpaws. The Warriors have started games well, outscoring their opponents 35-17 in the first inning.
