LUKE 6:47-49 A Story of two builders

Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.

LUKE 6:47-49 (ESV)

But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.

LUKE 6:47-49 (ESV)

Everyone is building their life on something.

The storm is coming. It will either make your faith or break your spirit.

It was at this moment, 1:06pm, 6 years ago, that our Elyse was born. In her short 10 1/2 months, she changed our lives for the better. God has drawn us closer to Him because of her life and death. I can't be thankful that she's not with us, but I'm thankful for how God has moulded us. But the outright truth is that I miss her A LOT today, more than most. But God remains good and faithful. In that I take heart.

So what does it mean to build on the Rock?

Everyone who comes to me
 and hears my words
 and does them.

[A Church Leader] must hold firm to the trustworthy

word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.

Titus 1:9

sound doctrine “the word”

“healthy”

“the story”

“heart of Jesus”

1 Timothy 6:3-5 If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing…

1 Timothy 6:3-5 He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.

True Doctrine, Sound Doctrine, Healthy Doctrine is often recognizable by the impact it has on everyday living.

With doctrine, A Church must decide two things: What doctrine are we going to be founded on (essentials), and what doctrine are we not going to argue about (non-essentials).

non-essentials doctrines are we not going to split over
