Hash Hotline: (562) HASHITT

March 9, 2008

CRASH & BURN's RUNNING PERSPECTIVES FROM THE REAR There was beautiful weather. We don't get this kind of weather in Michigan until late May. Right now it is cold there with snow on the ground. We began this sojourn in El Dorado Park going along flat terrain for us walkers. I imagine it was a little tougher for the runners. Walking along the reservoir I spotted a bridge going over the reservoir. I think the beer check was under the bridge but our group walked up to the road. Thank you to the people I was walking with for helping me to get up to the road as I had to scale a fence and climb over it. The second bridge was much easier as all I had to do was get up to the railing and vault over it. From there we traversed down the road into a subdivision. After going a few blocks we ended up at one of the hare's house where we enjoyed a little bit of steak, hot dogs, salads, other finger food, and of course, beer. Ceremonies were done where people had to drink for the usual crap. This is pretty good as the hash cash was a nice, cheap $4. Back home we usually go to a bar and have burgers and beer and hash cash is $15. Point your browser to http://a2h3.org/ for Ann Arbor's 1000th hash which is March 29. If you're interested and have the money to fly across the country for one hash, DO IT!

# 156 THIS DATE IN HASH HISTORY Run # 156

Date: 1/24/1988 (20 years ago)

Place: Long Beach Hares: FRUIT OF THE LOOM & RUDE CRUDE Miles: 4.5

Attendance: 92

1/24/1988 was the morning after LBH3 ’s 3rd Annual Found’er Balls. We had not yet initiated the tradition of requiring the outgoing GM’s to hare on this day, so FOTL and RUDE CRUDE were ready to lead us on a tour of the vicinity of Cal State Long Beach. We had survived the previous evening’s award presentations (including FOTL for “Worst Dressed Hasher” – see photo), the re-election of GM’s ASYNC and ALOUETTE, and much dining, dancing and debauchery at The Galley Restaurant. When they closed at midnight, many revelers moved the party around the corner to the Thirsty Isle, where it continued until they threw us out at 2 AM. But back to the Sunday morning hash - at approximately 10:15 AM, the hares led us on a well- marked trail leading north for a mile along the channel. We turned east, we turned south, we ran through some neighborhoods and finally reached a beer check at Edison Park. We then headed due south about 2 miles on an access road until it curved around the oilfields at Westminster and Studebaker and ended up in Gum Grove Park in Seal Beach. Our new brewmeister SHINER BOCK received the Hashit for not knowing how to tap the keg. The on-on was at Joe Jost’s.

#708 THIS DATE IN HASH HISTORY Run # 708 Date: 3/8/1998 (10 years ago) Place: Whittier Hares: LITTLE WHOPPER (virgin solo hare) Miles: 5 Attendance: 45 While many hashers were away at Rehab with Betty Ford, 45 of the faithful gathered at Broadway Park in Whittier. The sky was blue and the temperature was warm – perfect hashing weather. 6-9 SPLIT took names at check-in but did not collect money as the Bored had declared this to be a free hash – in honor of SCOOTER being in Palm Springs. EZ showed up wearing new shoes and hoped that we wouldn’t notice. Soon the pack was off in pursuit of solo hare WHOPPER, and we ran and ran and ran all the way to the softball fields at Whittier College before we came to the first check. Trail continued uphill into some pretty good shiggy, past an unmanned beer check in the middle of nowhere and out on to a street. We turned right on another street and found “Hare Snare” by PIG IRON and PMS near a school. Shortly thereafter, there was another Hare Snare by visitor WANKER who was lost and stumbled into the hare running towards him. After more hills and streets, we arrived at Founder’s Memorial Park for the on- in. Just Debbie came in DFL and was rewarded with the hash name CORN HOLE HUSSIE (something to do with bicycling in Iowa). POKEY received the Hashit for remembering to bring beer and a glass-encased black dildo – but forgetting to bring the Hashit. The on-on was at a Mexican restaurant, and several hashers adjourned to PMS’s jacuzzi for an on-and-on-and-on after that!
