LBH# Run #1224 Port of Long Beach: Again we did not have to cross over the bridges to Pedro As I was driving to the hash today in almost San Pedro, I was wondering if this was going to be a junkyard run, or is this going to be a boat run or a shiggy run, or maybe even a fish run. Since the Queen’s Wharf Restaurant is a really good fish restaurant and next door the Berth 55 is a great place to buy fish, having bought a live lobster one time of course they killed it for me before I brought it home. The hares FISH LIPS and TEALY DAN I know are very quick runners having both qualified for the Boston Marathon in the last weeks Palos Verdes Marathon, so I didn’t know what to expect. So we will find out here. Now, I am getting here quite early and right in front of me is the little red car of HOT PANT who seems oblivious to everything including all the big semis all around her. But here we are at the Queens’ Wharf, where she goes right to the Restaurant, and obviously we were way on the other side hiding. I pull up right here next to the haberdashery and here are the hares, right there ready to rock and roll. Well GEEZER TEASER had the haberdashery all set up as usual; the hash cash, HE’S SO SWEET and LOW BEAMS are there; it looks like all the players are in place. ALOUETTE and her new sidekick laptop are here making sure that everything is being taken care of. We are right in the harbor here with all the semis going around here; this has to be obviously one of the most polluted places you can possibly start a hash. Well the hares are off on time and they promised a lot of falses two beer checks and some turkey eagle split, so we are definitely going to see where we are going to go here. Of course the usual suspects are here plus some new boots and of course my favorite scribe of all time, JESUS CHRIST SUPER SCAR is here commenting on my tape recorder; he is soo good he doesn’t need one-he does his all by memory.

His girlfriend BROOMHILDA says that he just makes it all up; it is just a story that people read. BEANER BEAR who is now 16 months old, and walking pretty good, is actually kind of a cute girl; she is going to be a really good hasher later on-I can tell already. She dresses like a clown. At the one minute warning, we see a train going backwards full of scrap metal, probably a bunch of chopped up cubed cars; they are all headed off to Korea or Japan. A lot of people don’t realize that there is an actual railway that is in the Harbor here called the Harbor Delt Line for those of you who are really going to read this. We are off exactly on time 6:45, and we are going to head south on Pico passing the Queens Wharf restaurant. Then we run into a bewildered rail road switchman who says to us “Who are you? What are you doing?” And of course we say, “We are the hash, and we are running for beer.” As we pass Pico Avenue, we are running on the rail road tracks and here comes that train coming right at us with the switchman right in front, and it appears our first check is on Pico and Broadway. The check is marked and now we are going east toward downtown Long Beach, but of course there is a river in the middle. Actually there is a river and a freeway in the middle, and then our first beer check is right under the Ocean Boulevard on-ramp to Pico. It sure looks like a lot of other people have drank beer here as well, not just us, by all the trash. We continue south on rail road tracks and apparently the people split up here where it says, “Derail”. We decide to run on the rail road tracks that are to the East and apparently we are doing fine, and on top of that, we are following HOT PANT which is fine. It appears the trail is heading toward the PORT of Long Beach Headquarters right in the midst of all the containers, so we will see what is going to happen. Finally after going down the street for a long time with nothing but rail road cars on both sides of us and the marine layer coming in over Palos Verdes we get to

Piers G, H, and J. Well now we are here at a truck crossing at an intersection that has no name and we are making sure we don’t get hit by trucks that come from all sides here so we actually gone through this intersection with no casualties. Well there is another check here on Harbor Plaza and Pier G Avenue which has been broken and now we are heading toward the Magnolia Bridge going toward I suppose the Queen Mary so the run takes us right in front of the headquarters of the Long Beach Harbor Department and looks like we are going to go over the bridge that says downtown. And of course once again we have to make sure we don’t get hit by any cars or trucks as we are crossing the street. Ok now we are running on the bridge on top of the Coast Hotel toward Downtown Long Beach so we will see what is going to happen. At the bottom we do an abrupt hair pin turn on to the road in front of the Coast Hotel. Where we run by the two tennis courts at the hotel that I have plated at on many occasions on a Friday evening and right in the lawn next to the tennis courts is our second beer check with a nice view of the harbor here and the Magnolia Bridge in Downtown Long Beach. Well this second beer check was such a nice and pleasant experience here on the lawn with ALWAYS JUICY, MOAN N’FUCK’ER, PASSING WIND, BEEFEATER, PILLBURY BLOW BOW, and HARRY PALMER, and of course WILD BILL. Unfortunately we have to leave here, so now as we go over the Magnolia Bridge we now run into all the walkers, who I don’t know how they come here but all of a sudden they show up, it’s a bunch of people here we though we were last and we are not last that is good. Well it is sure magnificent that view of downtown Long Beach, and the water front and Queen Mary from the top of the Magnolia Bridge, especially when you are walking with three beautiful women, whose names escape me at write up time. So we shortcut the bridge and then we hit the Long Beach Aquarium which is a very nice attraction if people want to see fish and stuff like that. Then we head under the bridge and go toward Catalina Landing and run right through Catalina Landing, and fortunately there is no loading or unloading ships right now, so we don’t make a scene. Well we passed by one of my old favorite restaurants that is now gone, Simon & Seaforts, and I sort of wonder what they did with the interior of the building here; is it still a restaurant looking for a new owner or is it just gone. We had some good times here for many years. We pass the headquarters of the California State University system where there is a nice little sign, saying

Golden shore past and present, showing the 1902 map of Long Beach and of course Joe Josts is there. Now, the trail let us right on the bike path now along the L.A. River, and we are heading toward the Queen Boulevard Bridge. Then we have to go down the rocks over the freeway, or actually across the freeway, toward the Hilton Hotel, and then the run is going to do another little 180 u-turn, and we are going to go over the Ocean Blvd. Bridge again, back over to the West Side of Long Beach, right at sunset. Kind of beautiful actually because kind of a clear day today, and the sun is perfectly orange. Now I have to comment on something. We just passed by the third hare snare on the Ocean Ave Bridge, which is unusual because these hares and the quality of their run, so I don’ t know; maybe there was a lot of people short cutting. Now we are back to Pico Ave and Pier E street; looks like we are heading back to where we started, so we will see how close we get. It appears that it is going to be an A to A run because we are right back where we started. It is still light outside, so it is a pretty good run. I enjoyed it. Up for name tonight was Ara Agobian, and the naming committee decided the pack would vote what new name is it going to be? At write up time, I don’t remember. At the end of the run, we are waiting for down downs. I am observing various people here, including KAMMONAWANALEIA with her big pink pecker that she always affectiously hugs. It is my understanding that it is her favorite dick, as opposed to HOT PANT, who has her favorite Dick, and of course you know me; I am the substitute Dick when the real Dick is not around. I don’t know why SIN D BARE thinks he is a movie star-he has shades on and it is dark outside. DETACHABLE PENIS was able to make it to the hash tonight after about four months of being forced to stay home. Well down downs got off to a good start. We didn’t have to wait too long. We had visitors from all over and returners from everywhere. PMS got his 569 patch today, and it was so eloquently worn by BLOW INTEREST NO PRINCIPAL who forgot she had the patch and no underwear. SIN D BARE got the hash shit. All in all a good time. On out!
