62ndth Minnesota State VFW Bantam A 2017 Tournament Rules Tournament Dates: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, March 24-‐26, 2017 Tournament Site: 1328 Highway 96 Tournament Host: White Bear Lake VFW Post 1782
Photos and Rosters Pictures and rosters for the tournament program need to be received before March 13, 2017. (See Enclosures A, B, and C)
State Tournament Format 1. The format will consist of eight (8) teams in a championship single elimination with a consolation division. 2. There will be games to determine consolation, third place and State Champion. 3. Teams in the top bracket will be the home team.
Playing Time 1. Games will consist of three, 17-‐minute periods of actual playing time. 2. With a six (6) or more goal differential in the third period, the game will be played running time. The clock will only be stopped for injuries or rink problems and only at the discretion of the referee.
F. Overtime Procedure 1. In case of a tie at the end of regulation playing time, the teams shall not change goals and sudden victory overtime play will ensue using the following format: a. Two (2) minute rest b. First overtime period-‐-‐ten (10) minutes-‐-‐five on five c. Resurface the ice d. Second overtime period-‐-‐ten (10) minutes—four on four e. Two (2) minute rest f. Remaining overtime periods – will be in accordance with Minnesota Hockey Rules. G. Uniforms 1. Every member of each team must be in proper uniform with a number and at least a three (3) inch V.F.W. Patch or proper identification that this is a VFW Team. 2. Teams should have one set of white or light colored jerseys and one set of dark colored jerseys available during the scheduled game times. Arrangements should be made BEFORE the tournament starts to have two sets of different colored jerseys available in case of conflicts.

H. Ice Resurfacing 1. The ice shall be resurfaced after warm-‐ups and after the second (2) period of each game. During the Championship game on Sunday, the ice will be resurfaced between each period. 2. If the game goes into overtime, resurfacing shall occur at the end of the first overtime period and at the end of every three overtime periods thereafter. I. Medical Attention There will be an Emergency Medical Technician present at each game. J. Referees Will be used in accordance with Minnesota Hockey Rules K. Team Registration 1. An official team roster – APPROVED USA Hockey Roster. 2. If you are electronically registered with USA Hockey, you do not need IMR forms. 3. Teams must bring a $100 check payable to “Department of MN VFW”. This check must be given to the State VFW Hockey Chairman, Jim Hesselgrave. 4. The Host Post must also receive a $100 check from the Districts Participating in the State Tournament. This check must be made payable to: QM, VFW Post 1782. L. Skate Sharpening Skate sharpening is NOT currently available at the arena. M. Players Equipment 1. Limited equipment such as mouth guards, stick tape, skate laces are available at local Sporting Good Stores. 2. All players and coaches must have and wear the appropriate equipment per Minnesota and USA Hockey rules.

We will support our teammates and be team players. 3. We will recognize who and what we are representing. 4. We will show no bias, no prejudice, or preferential treatment on or off the ice. 5. We will take responsibility for our own behavior. 6. We will be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.

62nd Minnesota State VFW Bantam A Tournament Brackets This will be the schedule for the 2017 VFW State Tournament. All games in the first bracket will be played as shown. The times of the games on the first day have been determined by the State VFW Tournament Chairman in cooperation with the White Bear Lake VFW Post 1782 Tournament Chairman. On Friday, March 24, games are 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. Games on Saturday, March 25, are as follows: Consolation games at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.; the Championship games at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. On Sunday, March 26, the Consolation Championship game will be at 9:00 a.m., the Third place game will be at 11:00 a.m. and the Championship game will be at 1:00 p.m. Check the website (http://mn.gov/vfw/Y_hockeyhistory.htm) for your team game times.
