SERMON NOTES

Mark’s Gospel: We Begin in the Desert Mark 1:1-13

1. The Son of God is the same as God. 2. Jesus is coming straight at you, but is the path to your heart straight? It’s time to clean up your heart by getting rid of your sins with sex, drugs, stealing, violence, cruelty, lying, and whatever else. 3. John the Baptizer’s ministry was unique in what ways?

4. Though He had no need to repent, by being baptized, He showed that where it mattered the most, the removal of our sins, He was ready to lay down under the water for our sake. What was this except foreshadowing of the cross, where the sinless savior would lay down His life to take away the sins of the world?

Digging Deeper into the Message Read the accounts of John the Baptist at the beginning of the Gospels of Matthew, Luke, and John. Note how they add unique details that Mark has not mentioned. Do the same with the wilderness experience of Jesus (His temptation): Matthew:

Community Group REVIEW: Review your sermon notes and discuss interesting points you remember from the sermon QUESTIONS: If Jesus was coming to your house tomorrow, what would you do to prepare? What habits would you give up on the spot? What would you determine to change in your life right away? Other thoughts? Have you received Jesus as your Savior?

Luke:

John:

God loves us like He loves the Son. It Is easy to feel tempted too believe that God's love for us is not strong? Why Is that? What will we do to remedy these lying feelings that tell us that God doesn't love us? God gives us dozens of opportunities to talk with others about Him every week. Who have you talked to Jesus about or invited to church this week? Who are you planning to talk to invite? (If the answer to both Is no one, let's stop and pray so that the Lord can lead you to spread His good new as He has commanded you)

APPLICATION: What are 2 ways each of us will act on what we learned in this sermon? Make these actions practical and do-able this week.
