ITINERARY

Day 1: Tuesday September 30, 2014 Fly Home Ports to Adelaide # 2 Nights D

Day 3: Thursday October 2, 2014 Adelaide – Port Augusta

Selected flights will bring Interstate passengers to the Adelaide Airport for arrival around the same times where you will be met and welcomed by your Christian Fellowship Coach Captain and the BCA Regional Officer for South Australia, Mrs Vivien Bleby. We will then be transferred to the hotel for check in and a welcome dinner.

Northwards we go, and it is not long before we depart from the city surrounds and enter the semi arid region surrounding Adelaide that is mixed with expansive wheat fields. Our first point of call is the township of Moonta where Grant Hay is the Willochra prison chaplain and we will share in his work and ministry over morning tea.

Overnight: Adelaide Comfort Inn.

From here it is an easy drive to Port Augusta where we will stop at the Wadlatta Centre for the afternoon.

Day 2: Wednesday October 1, 2014 Hahndorf and Sightseeing

Overnight: Standpipe Inn Port Augusta

A part of South Australia’s heritage is the very strong Lutheran–German connection, and this is very obvious in the quaint village of Hahndorf in the Adelaide hills. Our tour to Hahndorf takes us via the magnificent views from the Mount Lofty Ranges, and we will enjoy some time in this village for strolling through the unusual range of shops and coffee houses before returning via Gumeracha and the world’s largest wooden rocking horse. Tonight at dinner we will host as our guests Rev Peter and Mrs Joy Palmer who have a unique ministry to the FI FO people (Fly in – Fly Out miners) Overnight: Adelaide Comfort Inn.

Day 4: Friday October 3, 2014 Roxby Downs - Andamooka B G L G D G

We are now in the South Australian Outback, with some salt lakes and mud pans visible amongst the desert landforms called Mesas, and our first morning break is in what remains of the old township of Woomera. A short drive brings us to Roxby Downs, and depending on the season being experienced, we might enjoy sightings of the beautiful Sturt Desert Pea. We will enjoy a picnic lunch around the pool at the Motor Inn where we will also meet with Rev Mary and Dr Owen Lewis serving in Roxby Downs.

This afternoon a very special treat is the short drive to Andamooka Opal Fields and a chance to meet some of the local people here. Dinner tonight will be at the church where we have the wonderful time of fellowship. Overnight: Roxby Downs Motor Inn Day 5: Saturday October 4, 2014 Roxby – Coober Pedy # 2 Nights B L D

North on the Stuart Highway is an amazing day’s drive where you will see very little sign of civilisation in the whole day apart from fellow travellers. But the desert landscape is ever changing, with views for many kilometres from occasional “jump up” landforms. A picnic lunch on the roadside stopping areas will bring us into the opal mining township of Coober Pedy in the late afternoon. If weather permits, we will enjoy a wonderful sunset from the roof top of the motel, right outside the dining room.

Day 6: Sunday October 5, 2014 Coober Pedy B G L G D G

† Worship

This morning a unique experience – join with the local Christian people who are members of the Catacomb Church, a church hewn from the rock face of the hillside and established by BCA support more than 30 years ago. After worship, we enjoy fellowship over lunch, and this afternoon top off a great day with a visit to the nearby Breakaways and return close to sunset. Overnight: Desert Cave Motel, Coober Pedy

Day 7: Monday October 6, 2014 Coober Pedy – William Creek – Leigh Creek B G L G D G

Today is a day of high adventure as we travel right through the desert driving from Coober Pedy to William Creek, a service station on the Oodnadatta Track. Lunch today is overlooking the expanse of Lake Eyre South as we drive towards Marree where the Birdsville Track joins, then head into Leigh Creek for an afternoon arrival.

Rev Geoff and Mrs Tracey Piggott will join us for dinner tonight.

This drive is one of the few remaining desert drives able to be enjoyed in a conventional touring coach.

Overnight: Desert Cave Motel, Coober Pedy

Why choose an outback ministry touring holiday?

Day 8: Tuesday October 7, 2014 Leigh Creek - Peterborough B G L G D G

Parts of this area that we drive through are known as the Hans Heysen Trail, and we will call in to Hawker in the Flinders Ranges foothills for a morning break, then head through Orrorroo towards Peterborough. The town is of interest to those with a passion for railway history – a town where there were three different gauges of trains that serviced the region.

This outback ministry touring holiday allows you to be a part of a group of like minded people travelling to see Australia as well as visiting the ministry centres of BCA. By joining this tour you also support the ministry of BCA. Having visitors share in fellowship with both the Field Staff and church community is invaluable to these remote centres.

Overnight: Peterborough Day 9: Wednesday October 8, 2014 Peterborough – Adelaide B G L G D G

You will start to appreciate the distances travelled by Bishop John Stead as he ministers throughout the Diocese of Willochra, which we have been travelling throughout since we left Adelaide. This morning we will visit the Diocesan centre and enjoy a time of learning about the unique nature of this vast Diocese that is greatly blessed by the service offered by BCA. Our drive into Adelaide is via Kapunda, home of Sir Sidney Kidman, the cattle King. Overnight: Adelaide Comfort Inn Day 10: Thursday October 9, 2014 Adelaide – Home Ports

G B

This morning our coach will transfer us to the Adelaide Airport for connecting flights back home.
