The Southcenter retail area is strategically located at the intersection of the I-5 and I-405 freeways approximately 10 miles south of the Seattle CBD. It is the largest concentration of retail square footage in the Seattle area market as well as the most vibrant market for “big box” retailers in the Northwest. As well as being a major retail center, Southcenter is the beginning point for the Kent Valley industrial and commercial market which consists of over 60 million square feet of industrial space and 7 million square feet of office space. Total employment is over 50,000 and it is the largest distribution market outside of southern California. Major employers include the Boeing Company, Starbucks, Providence Health Care Systems and numerous Fortune 500 and regional companies. Along with the surrounding residential population of 255,000 in a five mile ring the daytime business population adds strength to the retail sales volume.
