SEMINOLE AND MORE
Seminole quilting is so called because it replicates the methods used by the Seminole Tribe. Shortly after the advent of the sewing machine, they began replicating their intricate basket patterns with fabric. They cut the fabric into narrow strips, sewed them together and then recut and re-resewed the pieces to create beautiful and intricate patterns. Quilters have borrowed these designs and enlarged them to enjoy a quick and easy method to generate pieced designs in a short amount of time. This class is hands-on. You will learn strip piecing techniques with Seminole patchwork band patterns, you’ll learn a technique for making strips (and blocks) with curved seams, and you’ll learn a trick or two for embellishment and adding a subtle three-dimensional aspect. Patterns and instructions will be given to make each design. Then, Sarah will talk about how to put it all together! What a wonderful quilting experience!
