VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: SEWING MACHINE REPAIR 304 Sewing Machines were shipped in 2017 In 2017, a dedicated team of local and not-so-local volunteers including Ralph Barr, Terry House, Clarence Harms, and Ester Mendosa repaired 264 Sewing Machines at an expense of only $414.15! Midwest Mission accepts donations of Electric and Treadle Sewing Machines and this team restores them and gets them ready to include on both domestic and international shipments. Last year they went to Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Haiti, and Ghana. In February, an 1885 Davis Treadle Machine was given a second life - hopefully changing the life of a recipient. If you would like to be part of this exciting mission at MMDC, please let us know! This team is happy to provide training to willing volunteers. Terry says, “If you can take something apart and put it back together without too many pieces left over, you would be a good trainee.” Ralph

February Volunteer Coordinators Tim Sherrow and Sharon Galley Sherrow love coming to Midwest Mission! Sharon started in 2006 after she retired from teaching and Tim joined her in 2014 when he retired from being an engineer. The last two years they have served as volunteer coordinators for two weeks in February. Sharon is especially passionate about sewing and helping children. Tim loves working in the warehouse, building (and tearing down.) Both Tim and Sharon lost their first spouses early: to a stroke (Tim) and a brain tumor (Sharon). They found each other in the midst of their grief and have been very happily married for over twenty years. Sharon has two children and four grandchildren, Tim has two sons and two grandchildren. Together they share happy, happy times as combined Mimi and Grandpa. They live in Michigan, in Clarkston and beautiful Traverse Bay. Their home church is Clarkston United Methodist where they are actively involved in many projects including Adult Righteous Mission (a church led community mission.) Tim also serves as treasurer for the UMM and Sharon is involved with a Companions spiritual study group and helps organize a weekly afterschool program called Camp B for first and second graders. After being at Midwest Mission, Sharon started Mercy Threads for church sewers to work on Midwest Mission sewing projects and Sleeper Sunday where the entire congregation collects sleepers for Layette Kits.
