Technician, Roadway Illumination & Traffic Signal Infrastructure The incumbent is responsible for the preparation, coordination, administration and supervision of maintenance contracts and new capital installation contracts for municipal assets related to roadway illumination and traffic signal infrastructure. The incumbent also investigates and coordinates responses to complaints and concerns related to roadway illumination and traffic signal infrastructure and coordinates the City’s role in the Ontario One Call program. Successful applicants will possess the following:
A three year post-secondary degree/diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering Technology, or a related field.
Two years experience in all aspects of roadway illumination and traffic signal infrastructure including new capital construction and maintenance activities, cost estimating and contract administration.
In-depth knowledge of current construction methodology and techniques, provincial, regional and municipal electrical design standards and legislation including ANSI/IES RP-18-14.
Proven ability to coordinate and inspect electrical engineering works and contracts.
Required to maintain a good working knowledge of applicable legislation and Regional policies and procedures, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Construction Act, Ontario Electrical Code, Ontario Traffic Manual and Ontario Provincial Standards.
Strong interpersonal, organizational and good communication (oral and written) skills and the ability to deal courteously and professionally with staff, elected officials and the public.
Ability to work independently on assignments under minimum supervision.
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of personal computers and Windows based computer applications.
Ability to prepare contract documents, reports, memorandums and provide project coordination and contract administration.
Must be prepared to work irregular hours, including evenings, and weekends.
Must be prepared to undergo a Criminal Reference Check as a condition of employment.
Must possess a valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s Licence and provide consent for a Driver’s Abstract. A clean driving record is preferred.
Compensation includes a comprehensive benefits package, pension plan and a salary ranging from $36.45/hr. to $40.50/hr. (based on a 35 hour work week).
