THIS WEEK: The top-ranked Trojans takes an 11-game winning streak into this weekend’s trip to Northern California. There, USC will face off against the nation’s No. 2 team, California, for their first conference face-off of the year at 10 a.m. on Saturday (Nov. 12). The following day, the Trojans pay a visit to No. 9 Pacific for a game at 12 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 13). ••• RANKINGS: USC (18-1, 5-0 MPSF) is ranked No. 1 in the national rankings for the third straight week. California (18-4, 4-1) is ranked No. 2, and Pacific (15-9, 1-3) is No. 9. ••• WEEKEND RECAP: The Trojan Tro s posted two important MPSF wins last weekend, first in a dramatic 8-7 overtime win over Stanford to stand alone as the only team still undefeated in conference play. Juan Delgadillo scored the game-winning goal on a counterattack strike, notching his second goal of the game. He, Juraj Zatovic and Pavol Valovic each finished with two goals apiece, and Joe Cosentino and Tommy Corcoran added one apiece in the crucial MSPF victory. The next day, USC avenged its only loss of the season with a decisive 10-4 win over visiting Pepperdine. Zatovic led all scorers with four goals, and Delgadillo punched in a hat trick to help keep the Trojans undefeated at McDonald’s Swim Stadium this season. ••• CALIFORNIA NOTES: No. 2 California is on a two-game winning streak after beating Pepperdine and UC Santa Barbara both in 7-6 decisions. The Bears are led in scoring this season by John Mann with 47 goals. ••• TROJANS-BEARS RIVALRY RIV : USC is 37-47-2 all-time against California and is on a seven-game winning streak against the Bears after posting two more wins this season during tournament play. Both those games were onegoal decisions, first in an 8-7 USC win in the semifinals of the Southern California Tournament, and then a 9-8 win against the host Bears in the championship of the Northern California Tournament. ••• PACIFIC NOTES: No. 9 Pacific posted its first MPSF win of the season last week in a 7-6 victory over UC Santa Barbara. The Tigers’goalie Marko Popvic is ranked 12th in the nation and tops in the MPSF with 8.2 saves per game. Pacific is led in scoring by Dragan Balkic with 40 goals. --more--

2005 University of Southern California Men’s Water Polo ••• TROJANS-TIGERS RIVALRY RIV : USC is 3-7 all-time against Pacific, having won the past three games, including last season’s 10-4 win in MPSF play. ••• SHILLING ON THE LIST: Sophomore goalie Adam Shilling earned his first career MPSF Player of the Week award after two big games in the cage for the Trojans last weekend. Shilling tacked up 10 saves in USC’s important overtime win over Stanford, then came back and helped dispatch Pepperdine with six saves in three periods in the cage. For those efforts, Shilling was named MPSF Mikasa Co-Player of the Week, becoming the third Trojan to win the weekly award this season. Shilling currently has posted 79 saves for the top-ranked Trojans this year and is ranked No. 24 in the nation with 7.2 saves per game. ••• BEST EVER: USC senior Juraj Zatovic chiseled his place in USC men’s water polo history on Oct. 23 when the two-meter defender rifled in five goals against UC Santa Barbara to become the Trojans’ all-time leading scorer. Zatovic needed just two goals to move into a tie with Robert Lynn at the top of the USC charts, but the senior made sure to pass up the mark with a five-goal outburst that pumps up his career total to 193 goals. Zatovic made his mark in the second quarter of the game with his 189th and 190th career goals, while the No. 1 Trojans were working their way well past the host Gauchos on the way to a 10-3 victory in their Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opener. Zatovic now is tied as the nation’s leader with 2.9 goals per game. ••• DOUBLING UP: The Trojans’ overall offensive production and defensive control have become glaringly apparent. After running up its winning streak to 11 games with last weekend’s wins, USC has maintained its scoring output at near double its goals allowed, outscoring all opponents 181-92 this season. On the attacking end of the pool, USC is averaging 9.5 goals per game, while allowing a mere 4.8 per game. That offensive number ranks the Trojans No. 10 in the nation and fourth in the conference. Defensively, USC not only leads the MPSF, but also the nation. The Trojan defense had not allowed more than five goals for eight straight games before coming up against UC Irvine in NorCal Tournament play on Oct. 15. ••• HOME POOL ADVANTAGE: After battling through regular-season competition, USC will play host to the crucial MPSF tournament (Nov. 25-27), where conference teams will vie for the championship title and an automatic bid into the eight-team NCAA Tournament. All the action is set to go down at McDonald’s Swim Stadium. •••
