PENNRIDGE 11U TRAVEL BASEBALL TEAM
Dear Parents / Players, Pennridge 11U Travel Baseball Team workouts will be held on multiple Sundays during the month of April. Below are the Sundays and the time and field locations: th • April 7 Major Complex @ 4PM-‐6PM th • April 14 Major Complex @ 2PM-‐4PM • April 21st Major Complex @ 4PM-‐6PM th • April 28 Major Complex @ 2PM-‐4PM In an event of inclement weather, please check the Pennridge Little League website (www.pennridgell.org for updated information about practice cancellations.) We are encouraging those who wish to workout / try-‐out to attend all workouts (if possible), as the areas you will be evaluated on will be different on certain dates. I do realize that this information is time sensitive and many of you have already made plans for specific dates in April. Please note that it is not mandatory for each player to make all the workouts, however; it is imperative that each player try to attend as many of the workouts in order to be considered for the 11U Travel Team. If the workout dates are a concern, please contact me immediately. th These workouts are for players who are Baseball age 11 and under (meaning their 12 birthday must come after April 30, 2013). The majority of the players trying out will be from the Major level. However, that doesn’t mean that a 10 year old player from the Intermediates or a 10 year old player from Majors can’t work out and be considered for the 11U Travel Team. The 11U Travel Baseball Team is considered an advanced skill level team and will be comprised of a small number of players who will be selected to represent Pennridge Little League. One of my responsibilities, that I am NOT excited about, is the cutting of players. Although I am not looking forward to this, it is a necessary part of the selection process for the Travel Team. Due to Little League regulations, I will keep more players than necessary before the first tournament. This is a positive as it will allow me to coach a few additional players during the spring season. However, I will then have to make an additional cut to meet the requirements set forth by Little League. While all players are welcome to try-‐out, as a parent and a coach I am asking each of you to please consider this and set your child up for success. If you are wondering if your child will be a good candidate for this team, please don’t hesitate to speak with your current coach or your previous Little League coach from last year. My goal is to make this a great experience for each child whether or not they are selected for the team. We will be looking for the following characteristics when selecting players for the team… 1. Performance (during tryouts and some regular season games) 2. Commitment (availability for all practices and tournaments; understanding roles) 3. Skills (throwing, catching, fielding, batting, base-‐running, baseball IQ) 4. ATTITUDE The cost to play on the 11U Travel Baseball Team is approximately $100/player. At this point, this will get each of the players a NEW uniform (shirt, pants, hat, socks and belt) and also entry into several tournaments.
The dates for our scheduled tournaments are as follows: (they are subject to change) Tournament / Scrimmage Dates: As of 4/1/13 • At Souderton TBD (50/70 Format) Mother’s Day Weekend 5/12 OFF • At Skippack 5/19 Scrimmage @ 2PM (50/70 Format) Memorial Day Weekend 5/26 OFF • At Huntingdon Valley 6/2 Scrimmage @ 3PM (50/70 Format) • At Quakertown 6/9 Time TBD (50/70 Format) • Skippack 6/14 – 6/16 (50/70 Format) Waiting for confirmation • Pennridge 6/20-‐6/23 (46/60 Format) • Hatfield 6/27-‐ 6/30 (50/70 Format) • Districts 7/1-‐7/14 (46/60 Format) o Depending on how the team plays, they can qualify for sections, states, etc…) o Sections 7/18 – 7/22 o States 7/26 – 8/1 • Deep Run 7/17-‐7/21 (50/70 Format) • Please note that if we are playing in sectionals, we will drop out of the Deep Run Tournament When making your summer vacation plans, please consider if your child will miss multiple games. While my belief is always FAMILY FIRST, there are a limited number of roster spots and we will need every player available. I am looking forward to the upcoming workouts / try-‐outs & tournament season. We are going to practice & play hard, hustle on and off the field, learn to respect the game and most importantly, demonstrate GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP (win or lose) . If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at
