UNIQUE AS YOU We are socially conscious designers, marketing professionals, artists and one or two lunatics. Our passion is to question existing systems and design sustainable solutions with respect to social and environmental issues.

Papernomads leave a lasting impression on people's minds but none on the environment. Our products are plain but affecting, soothingly analogue and ecologically elaborated. They are made from 100% organic materials, they are tear- and water-resistant and biodegradable.

The life-expectancy of today's electronic devices is rarely more than a couple of years. Why protect them with plastic covers that will likely outlive the device by decades? Papernomads are made from a patented paper composite - comprised of several layers of paper and a bio-polymer membrane - combined with cotton-padding, wool-felt-lining and a pullstrap made from linen. When it's time to upgrade an electronic device, the protective sleeve can be reused. If the relationship with an electronic device has expired, the protective case can be composted. Papernomads meet the needs of modern nomads. Most of us live and travel through a world of constant change - a world that we are at risk of losing ourselves in. Paper is the perfect analogue counterbalance to a glass and plastic digital world that surrounds us. Why not use paper to make products that capture our experiences as quick scribbles, coffee stains, finger prints, telephone numbers or the occasional lipstick impression. Not unlike a diary, Papernomads document our experiences and create reference points in time for us to remember who we are.

In this era of iPhone-uniformity, sleeves and covers for mobile electronic devices become a differentiation-tool within a jumble of good tastes. Papernomads unite fashion and idealism. Imagine a tear resistant envelope made from several layers of paper, a bio-polymer membrane and a lining made of wool. The outer skin acts as a paper-canvas to collect your memories and when the life of the device comes to an end, the envelope can do the same; it's bio-degradable.

High-tech inside, low-tech outside; Papernomad is the first manufacturer of laptop and iPad sleeves made from a compostable papercomposite. It's made entirely from renewable resources. But according to Christoph Rochna, it is more about their identity: “The sleeves document our past through accidental marks and traces left on them. We immortalize memories on paper; that is what makes our products unique."

Take the digital world and wrap it up in some analogue goodness with Papernomad's ultra-customizable iPad sleeve. Made from tear resistant virgin kraft paper and lined with sheep's wool, it won't rip or wear out; better still, it's a sketch artist's dream, inviting you to doodle, draw, or take notes as you watch the world go by from a cafe in Paris or Phnom Penh.

As an Austrian start-up we have soon received the attention of the German speaking media, with overseas on- and offline publications in various languages quickly following.

Advanced materials boost qualities such as dust- and dirtresistance; these laptop sleeves - made from an organic paper composite - pitch the exact opposite. Whether it is coffee, grease or a pen; anything this bag comes into contact with leaves a mark to tell a story.

For packaging artists: show personality and customize your tech-bag. These paper sleeves for smartphone, iPad & Co. are robust, sustainable and thanks to your own doodles - unique!

At the beginning was the idea to design and manufacture compostable bean bags for public open air events. This posed a challenge to in several ways: the paper would be subjected to rain, potentially to fire (cigarettes), sharp objects and harsh treatment. We succeeded to create a material that is water proof, tear resistant and can be treated to be fire retardant. After the potential of our new material became apparent, we decided to use it to manufacture sleeves for mobile electronic devices. We added new materials such as wool-felt and hemp fibres - but always keeping in mind to not go down the much easier path of using plastics or chemicals. We looked at markets, user groups and behavior patterns, interviewed our anticipated target group and honed in on a suitable design language. We began to document our story and it became a vital part of our products. Keen interest and direct involvement in every step of the process, from raw material production to the point of sale, has enabled us to solve problems early and become competent to create unique products which have received worldwide attention.
