Dear Northern California Strong Workforce Program Committee, As a representative of All Tech Automotive, I am pleased to submit this letter of support for American River College’s Strong Workforce Program application to expand their automotive technology program. In the last couple of years, the demand for well-trained automotive technicians has grown substantially, which has created a shortage of qualified applicants for open automotive technician positions. Over the next 12 months, we anticipate that we will need to add 3 new automotive technicians to our existing staff and replace 2 technicians. Over the next three years, we plan to add 4 new automotive technicians to our existing staff and replace 2 technicians. Based upon our previous hiring experience, we prefer to hire graduates from community college programs over private education institutions. Overall, we’ve found that community college graduates have a better foundation of basic knowledge and adapt quickly to our standards and requirements, while private education graduates have a steep learning curve. For these reasons, I strongly recommend that you fund the expansion of ARC’s automotive program. Please don’t hesitate to call me at 916-481-1110 with any questions.

Respectfully,

Steven Sacco, Owner All Tech Automotive Carmichael CA

Dear Northern California Strong Workforce Program Committee, As a representative of the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation, I am pleased to submit this letter of support for American River College’s Strong Workforce Program application to expand their automotive technology program. In the last couple of years, the demand for well-trained automotive technicians has grown substantially, which has created a shortage of qualified applicants for open automotive technician positions. The need for automotive service and repair technicians will continue over the next several years as the number of vehicles on the road increase. This is an occupation that can’t be outsourced. It offers an individual the opportunity to make a living and provide a needed service to the community. Recent findings suggest that graduates from community college programs receive an excellence educational experience and are ready to enter the workforce. Overall, we’ve found that community college graduates have a strong foundation of basic knowledge and adapt quickly learn what’s needed to be employed productively. For these reasons, I strongly recommend that you fund the expansion of ARC’s automotive program. Thank you for your consideration of this important matter.

Dear Northern California Strong Workforce Program Committee, This letter is to show the support of Sacrament Municipal Utility District (SMUD) for the American River College (ARC) submission for the Northern California Strong Workforce grant. The expansion of ARC’s automotive technology program will help fill a much-needed gap in developing prepared students for a continually changing automotive industry. In the last few years, the demand for well-trained automotive technicians has grown substantially, which has created a shortage of qualified applicants for open automotive technician positions. Over the past 4 years, we have hired 10 automotive technicians. We expect the demand for these skills to continue to grow as we face increased retirements and an expansion of our fleet. Based upon our previous hiring experience, we prefer to hire graduates from community college programs over private education institutions. Overall, we’ve found that community college graduates have a better foundation of basic knowledge and adapt quickly to our standards and requirements, while private education graduates have a steep learning curve. In my role in workforce pipeline planning at SMUD, I look forward to seeing the expansion of the automotive program at American River College and fully endorse it. Sincerely,

Susan Wheeler SMUD Workforce Pipeline Planning and Education Relations Strategist
