CHESED CORNER Visiting the Graves of our Ancestors: Kever Avot • Elul is here. Time is running out The custom of visiting the gravesites of loved ones during the month of Elul has been observed by many Jews throughout the generations. It is seen as a prelude to Rosh Hashanah, to remembering and recognizing that past is prelude to our present. This custom is difficult if you do not have a car. We are still looking for drivers and people who need transportation. If you visit loved ones at THE NEW MONTEFIORE CEMETERY on Long Island, one of our members plans to go during the last week in August and has 4 seats available. If interested please email
[email protected] and we will provide you with the person’s name, email address and phone so that you can make arrangements. We have already filled one seat. We have requests for people who need a ride to CEDAR PARK OR BETH EL cemeteries in Paramus, NJ, MOUNT LEBANON CEMETERY in Queens and Westchester Hills (aka STEPHEN WISE FREE SYNAGOGUE CEMETERY) in Hastings-on-Hudson, AND BETH DAVID CEMETERY in Elmont Queens. Please email
[email protected] with the name of the cemetery you would like to visit during Elul and we will try to team you up with a driver. If anyone is driving to these cemeteries please email
[email protected]. Please consider fulfilling this mitzvah and let us know when you plan to visit.

The New York Times has supported the Iran nuclear deal on its editorial page. Yet, earlier this week, they published a front page news analysis titled Future Risks of Iran Deal. The article painted a far less glossy view of the deal, including: “… most of the significant constraints on Tehran’s program lapse after 15 years — and, after that, Iran is free to produce uranium on an industrial scale.” Congressman Nadler announced that he is in favor of the deal. Given the enormous stakes, it behooves us to ask him to reverse his decision. Please email him Congressman Jerrold Nadler or call 212.367.7350 State your case succinctly and politely.
