Wheelchair Meeting Minutes 11/15/14 Face-to-face meeting started at 10am, Manteca Holiday Inn Express, 179 Commerce, Manteca Committee Members Present: Don Bearden, Jay Byrne, Peg Keefe, Marian Thomson, David Van Brunt, Mike Yousefi, Johnny Rios. Not present: Sandra Kazanjian-Gostanian Staff: Jon Fierabend and Chris Samuel Not present: Alison Vidal Shirts were distributed to the committee members and Jon Fierabend was introduced as the new USTA NorCal Staff Liaison for the committee. Chris will work with Jon to ensure a smooth transition. She also encouraged committee members to stay in contact and work with their area Tennis Service Representative. Budget Update: Chris stated that there has been $15,980 spent on stipends which includes the Friends of Oakland award for $2,000. The stipend budget is $15,000. USTA NorCal have not received the check and Chris will contact Marc Weinstein again. The committee decided to have current stipend recipients submit their additional receipts for reimbursement on the assumption that the $2,000 check will be returned. Chris will update committee with additional information on end-of-year expenses including North/South Challenge. North/South Challenge: Dates are 11/22 & 11/23. Chris will need to order shirts and arrange for another USTA staff member to pay for event costs. She will review previous event order, arrange travel stipend, and coordinate with David. Stipend amounts: $50 one day and $100 for both days. Marian will work the Tournament Desk along with Annette Buck from the Southern California section. ACES nominations: Committee members discussed nominations for the ACES Award. The decision was made to award the following recipients: Michael Yousefi, Ned Mansfield Award; Carmichael Parks, Outstanding Wheelchair Tennis Organization; and Brent Poppen, Outstanding Wheelchair Volunteer. No award was made for the category of Most Improved Wheelchair Tennis Player. Awards to be presented on February 22, 2015- ACES luncheon, Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery, Livermore Committee Changes: Peg’s term with the Wheelchair Committee ends at the end of 2014. David VanBrunt and Michael Yousefi would like to co-chair the Wheelchair Committee for 2015. Motion was made to appoint them as co-chairs and was approved by the Committee. Johnny Rios resigned from the Committee. The group recognized his contributions and will stay in contact. Don Bearden said that he would ask Marcus Causton to join the committee. 2015 Stipend Form: Peg will make updates to the 2014 form and email to the group. 2015 Committee Meeting Dates: The group decided on the following dates:  February 9, 2015, Conference Call, 7-9pm  March 12m 2015, Conference Call, 7-9pm  May 5, 2015, Conference Call, 7-9pm  July 27, 2015, Conference Call, 7-9pm  September 10, 2015- Conference Call 7-9pm  November 14, 2015, Face to Face Meeting & Lunch, 10am-2pm location to be determined Jon will work with Chris to have a complete calendar for the year. Committee members should submit items to Jon. New Web App for Wheelchair Tennis Players: Chris mentioned the new mobile app to help wheelchair tennis players and friends stay connected. Would be nice to have photos from upcoming North/South Challenge posted on the app. She posted a group photo of the committee members on the app.

Lunch was served and the meeting adjourned at 1:00pm.
