MATERIALS

Bernat® Softee® Baby Chunky™ (5 oz/140 g; 155 yds/142 m) Sizes 6-12 18-24 mos Main Color (MC) Cozy Gray (96005) 1 1 ball Contrast A Fluffy Cloud White (96001) 1 1 ball Size U.S. 10½ (6.5 mm) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. 2 yards [1.8 m] each of yellow and black worsted weight yarn.

INSTRUCTIONS The instructions are written for smaller size. If changes are necessary for larger size the instructions will be written thus ( ). Numbers for each size are shown in the same color throughout the pattern. When only one number is given in black, it applies to both sizes. Note: When working from chart, wind small balls of colors to be used, one for each separate area of color in the design. Start new colors at appropriate points.

To change colors, twist the two colors around each other where they meet, on WS, to avoid a hole. Note duplicate stitch areas will be worked once Hat is complete. With MC, cast on 27 (29) sts. **1st row: (RS). *K1. P1. Rep from * to last st. K1. 2nd row: *P1. K1. Rep from * to last st. P1. Rep last 2 rows once more.** 3rd row: Knit. 4th row: Purl. 5th row: With MC, K3 (4). Knit 1st row of Chart, reading row from right to left. With MC, K3 (4). 6th row: With MC, P3 (4). Cont in stocking st until work from beg measures approx 11 (12)" [28 (30.5) cm], ending on a purl row. Rep from ** to **. Cast off in ribbing. Work duplicate st with yellow yarn as indicated on chart and embroider eyes with black yarn as illustrated using chain st. Fold Hat in half and sew side seams.

Tassels Wind A around 4 fingers approx 40 times. Tie securely at one end. Cut across other end. Wrap strand of A around tassel ½" [1.25 cm] from tied end. Fasten securely. Sew to Hat as shown in photo.
