WSU OPEN INDOOR TRACK MEET FINDS COUGAR TEAMS AT HOME Washington State University’s 14th Annual WSU Indoor Open takes place Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22 and 23, in the Indoor Facility on the Pullman campus…WSU Indoor Facility’s Mondo track features racing at a 60m straightaway, and a 200m oval…jumping and throwing field events are contested on the turf inside the oval…discus, weight throws, triple jumps and women’s pole vault take place Fri., Jan. 22...remaining field events begin Saturday, Jan. 23, at 9:30 a.m. with running events set to start at 10 a.m…no late entries will be accepted...spectators are admitted free of charge for all WSU Track & Field competition in 2016...no live stats and no webcast...results will be posted at www.wsucougars.com, following the meet’s completion.

Wayne Phipps (Univ. of British Columbia ‘91/Oregon ‘94) become the 15th coach to take the reins of the Washington State men’s program and the second coach for the combined men’s and women’s program at WSU on July 1, 2014...Phipps had been the University of Idaho’s Director and Track & Field/ Cross Country from 2010 through 2014, and was a coach with the Vandals program for a total of 19 years...he served as co-head coach from 2000-09, after serving as an assistant coach from 1995-99... while at Idaho, Phipps was honored 14 times as a conference coach of the year and led the Vandals to a record 16 total conference titles. COUGAR TRACK & FIELD COACHING STAFF WSU Track & Field coaching staff includes Associate Head Coaches Julie Taylor (throws), and Yogi Teevens (sprints, relays and horizontal jumps)... Assistant Coaches are Brad Walker (vertical jumps), and Allix Potratz-Lee (distance)...Andrea Sabbatine is the Operations Coordinator...volunteeers working with the WSU track and field this year include: Jesse Jorgensen, Nigel Joseph, Hannah Kiser, Josiah Sims, Tim Taylor, and Liga Velvere. 2016 WASHINGTON STATE TRACK & FIELD TEAM CAPTAINS To be announced.
RUST-BUSTER WEEKEND MEET HIGHLIGHTS The WSU track and field teams opened the 2016 season in three locations...at UW Preview meet, Liz Harper and Kiana Davis both cleared 5-8 3/4 (1.75m) and finished 1-2...Harper also took seventh in 60m hurdles (8.76) and Davis place fifth in triple jump with a PR of 39-4 1/2 (12.00m)...Greer Alsop leaped a PR for second in triple jump at 41-0 1/4 (12.50m)...Thane Pierson tied for fourth in the high jump (6-10 3/4 - 2.10m)...Terrance Chambers finished fourth in the 200m (22.14) while Ja’Maun Charles finished sixth in the 400m (49.16)...Dominique Keel finished sixth in the 400m dash (56.39) and seventh in the 200m dash (24.78)...CJ Allen finished fourth in th 60m hurdles with PR of 8.16, and third in the 600m run with a time of 1:18.78...Reid Muller placed fifth in the 800m (1:54.23)...at the Idaho Invitational, Brock Eager won the 35-pound weight throw with a PR of 58-4 3/4 (17.80m)...McKenna Hogan won the women’s long jump ( 17-3 1/4 - 5.26m)...at the Ed Jacoby Invitational in Nampa, Idaho, Dino Dodig won the heptathlon ( 5,464 points) and had a PR in the 60m hurdles of 8.31...WSU assistant coach, Canadian Olympian Angela Whyte, won the women’s 60m hurdles in a time of 8.19 after running the prelims in 8.15.
