Sow thinly in late Mar-Apr direct into finely raked, moist, warm, weed-free soil at a depth of 13mm (½"). To grow in ‘blocks’ in raised beds etc. sow a few seeds every 10cm (4") or traditionally in rows 30cm (12") apart. Thin to leave one seedling per 10cm (4"). (Use ‘thinnings’ as salad onions). For early crops, sow in pots indoors/greenhouse in Feb-Mar, maintaining 15-20°C (6068°F) and grow on, planting out in May-Jun. Water freely in dry weather. To assist ripening, gently loosen onion bulbs prior to lifting. Sowing ➞ Cropping - 24-26 weeks.
