17 Amazing Facts About Indiana Jones That Every Harrison Ford Fan Would Love To Know Celebrities Every few decades or so, there comes a movie which sets the standard for the coming generations of the audience and filmmakers as well. These films, they uplift the level and engineer an entirely new path for the coming generation to walk upon. Directors like James Cameron, Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, etc.moivie, they can be called pioneers of the modern day cinema. Such a movie came in 1981 by director Steven Spielberg starring Harrison Ford as lead. This movie literally spawned an all new genre for the cinematic domain. Handsome, daredevil archaeologist Indiana Jones made his way into people's heart and till this day, owns a special and quite a large part of it. From falling into a pit full of cobras to zip lining and whipping the crap out of his enemies, there is no task which is too large or no place which is too difficult for him to reach. 1. My Name is...

Originally, the lead character was named Indiana Smith. It was changed to Indiana Jones on the first day of the shoot of 'raiders of the lost ark'. Shocker! right?

2. Lucky Break

Jonathan Ke Quan, the child actor who played the role of 'Short Round' in 'Temple of Doom', was not planning

on giving the auditions for the role. He actually was at the auditions for his little brother who was about to give audition for the role. The casting director saw Jonathan, and asked him to audition for the role and he found his way to stardom just like that. . 

3. In Character's Boots

Harrison Ford decided to perform almost all the stunts on his own because in his opinion it was necessary for him to get attached to the character, to really get into character's boots.

4. Ouch!

While filming the scenes inside the well of souls where there were hundereds of snakes crawling over one another, one of the pythons actiually bit the assistant director David Tomblin. In the end, the python was pulled off of tomblin's hand.

5. Tough Luck

All the movies in the original trilogy were nominated for academy awards and won few of them as well but 'Kingdom of The Crystal Skull' didn't even managed to get nominated for even one.

6. Atonement

Steven Spielberg admitted that he made 'the Last Crusade' to atone for 'The Temple of Doom', which as a matter of fact was weakest of the trilogy, and to fulfill his three movies obligation towards George Lucas.

7. Too Damn High!

Steven Spielberg, who is terrified of heights, never went near the bridge in the final scene in 'The Temple of Doom', instead he used to drive miles to get to the shooting.

8. Their Loss

Almost every studio refused to be involved with 'the Raiders of The Lost Ark' even though names like Steven Spielberg and George Lucas were involved with it. After a lot of convincing did Paramount agree to make the movie.

9. Nick Names

To prevent the leaks, every actor inviolved in the movie were given nickname for daily call sheets. Harrison Ford was '#', Cate Blanchett was 'The Mean Girl' and Karen Allen was 'The damsel'.

10. Rated R

'Raiders of The Lost Ark' was originally given R rating due the exploding head scene. The scene was enhanced in post-production, by adding  flames to the head to make it less graphic.

11. Suck it!

12. Eaten By Elephant

Kate Caphshaw's dress, which she wore in the Shanghai scenes, was actually made by very precious beads and was one of a kind. Now this may sound nutty, but an elephant ate the back portion of the dress as it hung from a tree. On the insurance form, it was written that the dress was infact, eaten by an elephant.

13. Shoot The Sucker

On the sets of 'Raiders of The Lost Ark', when every one was suffering from food poisoning other that the director, Steven Spielberg, Ford asked to alter the scene in which he was supposed to use his whip to take the sword from the swords man to just shoot him or as he said 'Shoot the sucker'.

14. Mr. and Mrs. Longfellow

The python used in 'The Temple of Doom', was brought to Sri-Lanka by animal handler Michael Culling. But because animals were not allowed in the country, he booked them their own room under name Mr. and Mrs Longfellow.

15. E.T.

When Ford's wife, Melissa Mathison, visited him on the sets of 'Raiders of The Lost Ark', Steven shared with her a story idea and then both of them wrote E.T. on the sets of the movie during breaks.

16. Run!

I'm sure you all remember the boulder scenes from the opening sequences from The Raiders of The Lost Ark''.

Ford actually outran the boulder, the fumbling in the scene is actually real. Steven Spielberg decided to keep it because he thought it looked real.

17. Black Eye

During the mine cart scenes in 'Temple of Doom Kate Capshaw got a black eye'due to an accident. The next day everyone in the crew showed with black eyes so that she won't feel bad.
