Dear Parents/Carers

NUT Strike Action – Wednesday 26th March 2014 I am writing to inform you that further to the National Union of Teachers’ pension scheme ballot of 2011 the school has been given notice that the union will be calling upon NUT members employed at Cockshut Hill to take a day’s strike action on Wednesday 26th March 2012. As a result of this action the school may not have the capacity to function safely and, as a result, the school will be closed to students on this date. I apologise for the disruption this may cause to your family. Whilst informing you of the enforced closure I thought I might also take the opportunity to bring you up to date on important developments at Cockshut Hill and give you details of some forthcoming events and dates. HMI Visit – Monday 3rd March 2014 Brian Cartwright HMI visited us to undertake our first monitoring inspection as part of OfSTEDs support framework for schools in Special Measures. During this inspection, meetings were held with the Principal, The Executive Principal of Ninestiles School, The Chair of the Governing Body, a representative of the Local Authority, senior school leaders and senior staff at Ninestiles. He visited some Key Stage 3 classrooms, observed the behaviour of students between lessons and at lunchtime and evaluated the local Authority statement of action and the school’s Action Plan. The day went well and the full report of his findings can be found at www.ofsted.gov.uk. However, I would like to highlight that he felt that ‘swift substantial and effective engagement with the support from Ninestiles has allowed the school to quickly begin dealing with the weaknesses identified in December 2013’ Our statement of action and action plan were both judged to be fit for purpose.
