Non-Legion 17/18/19 Yr old program
For the 2017 baseball season, Shoreview Area Youth Baseball is again offering a 17-18-19 yr old program. SAYB may adjust the information below and it should be deemed as tentative. It is based on anticipated field availability and registration numbers. Once registration numbers and talent evaluations are completed the SAYB Executive Committee may adjust any policies as necessary to best meet the needs of the entire 17/18/19 year old age group. We will do our best to accommodate all players who register for the program however based on field availability and registration numbers it is possible that not all players will be able to be placed on a team. Number of Teams/League Affiliation This program is intended to provide a baseball opportunity for 17/18/19 year old players. Teams will participate in the Gopher State 19UAAA or AA program. It is possible that the number of teams will be added or reduced depending upon the number of players expressing interest. At this time, we estimate enough interest to form 1 team of 12 players. In addition to this program, there are 2 American Legion programs available for SAYB Players. An Irondale High School program and Tri-City Red aligned with Mounds view High School. The American Legion team formation rules are complex so if interested in that program please contact either TriCity, Irondale or Michael Anderson for further information. Number of Games At this time we estimate between 16-18 league games, Practices/Games will begin in mid to late May. The team is offered an opportunity to also play in no more than 2 tournaments based on a team decision between the players and the manager. The season will complete in July. Practices Practice schedule will vary from team to team. Managers are responsible for scheduling practices and securing practice fields. When the season begins and new teams are formed, players can expect to practice/games on average five times per week depending on field availability and Managers coaching philosophy. Once the regular season begins, practices will be scheduled once or twice a week depending on game schedule. Team Formation Depending on the number of individuals a tryout process may not be necessary. However, we have scheduled a tentative tryout date. Registered players will be contacted to confirm the tryout time, date and location. A group of evaluators who have no children in this age group, will rate the players and determine team make up. Playing Time Managers are able to establish their own rules for playing time at this level. However the primary philosophy is intended to develop players. This does not mean that players will play an equal number of innings or rotate between positions. It is up to the Managers to place players in positions that are suited to the abilities of each player. At this age level and this competition level, players play positions that they are best at, and more importantly, at positions that the Manager believes will best help the team win the game. It is up to the Manager
to set the lineup and to evaluate the players’ abilities to achieve the goals of the team and develop players at more than one position. The Manager is not required to play evenly or rotate batting orders. Registration Details / If necessary all prospective players must attend the registration and tryout session to be placed on a 17/18/19 yr old team.
