FRANKENMUTH 21 - VASSAR 7: The Eagles took on rival Vassar and came away with a 21-7 win. In the 2 quarter, Mike Schmelzer gave the Eagles the lead st rd scoring on a 9-yard run. With a minute remaining in the 1 half, Vassar scored on a 46-yard pass play to make the score 7-7 at the half. In the 3 quarter, Paul Sica scored from 13-yards out and Jim Shield's PAT gave the Eagles a 14-7 lead. Mike Weiss capped a 72-yard drive with a 1-yard run. FRANKENMUTH 28 - BULLOCK CREEK 0: Bullock Creek traveled to Frankenmuth and went home 28-0 losers. Mid way through the 1 quarter, Myron Maurer found Scott Jacobs for a 43-yard touchdown and a series later, Maurer again hooked up with Jacobs for a TD pass. Paul Sica scored on a 2-yard run late in the 2nd quarter. At the start of the 4th quarter, Vince Salerno scored on a 1-yard run and Jim Shields kicked his 4th PAT of the game to give the Eagles the victory. Sica paced the defense with 13 tackles. FRANKENMUTH 27 - BIRCH RUN 0: The Eagles put together their second straight shutout by blanking Birch Run 27-0. The Eagles scored on a 10-yard run by Paul Sica to cap a 77-yard drive. With 33 seconds left in the half, Sica scored again on a 3-yard run as the Eagles took a 13-0 halftime lead. Sica added a third score rd in the 3 quarter and Shields added the PAT. Mike Schmelzer tallied the final score, a 15-yard run, completing a 13- play drive. The Eagles totaled 303 total offense, with 200 yards coming on the ground. FRANKENMUTH 31 - MILLINGTON 20: Frankenmuth held on for a 31-20 win over Millington. The Eagles scored on their second possession as Paul Sica st scored from 4-yards at the 4:53 mark of the 1 quarter, but the PAT was missed. Myron Maurer connected with Scott Jacobs for two TD strikes of 35 and 20 yards before halftime. The Eagles increased their lead to 24-0 in the third quarter when Sica scored on a 25-yard gallop. Millington got on the scoreboard after an interception, scoring on a 1-yard run and a 2-point conversion. Millington scored again on a 1-yard run to narrow the Eagles lead to 24-14. With 2:14 remaining in the game, the Cardinals scored on a 17-yard pass play to narrow the score to 24-20. Millington got the ball back for one last drive, but Sica intercepted the pass and then scored with :10 seconds remaining on a 5-yard run to seal the victory. Sica ended up with 114 yards rushing on 19 attempts while Maurer tossed for 162 yards passing. Steve Heinlein led the defense with 12 tackles. FRANKENMUTH 30 - HEMLOCK 0: The Eagles ran their record to 5-0 with a 30-0 shutout victory over Hemlock. Frankenmuth scored on a Jim Shields 30-yard field goal on its first series of the game. The only other 1st half score came when Mike Janssen broke through to tackle the Huskies running back in the end zone for a safety, as the Eagles took a 5-0 lead at the half. Scott Jacobs began the 2nd half with a 78-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and Shields added the PAT to up the rd th score to 12-0. Paul Sica's interception setup a 3-yard run by Mike Schmelzer late in the 3 quarter. Schmelzer added a 4 quarter scoring run and Lance O'Donnell intercepted a Hemlock pass on the final play of the game and returned 16-yard for a touchdown. FRANKENMUTH 45 - CARROLLTON 6: Frankenmuth remained unbeaten with a 45-6 victory over Carrollton. After a Mike Schmelzer interception, Paul Sica scored from 1-yard andst added a 5-yard run as the Eagles took a 14-0 1st quarter lead. Four minutes into the 2nd quarter, Scott Jacobs scored on a 47-yard reverse. Schmelzer ended the 1 half scoring with a 6-yard run as the Eagles lead 28 0 at the half. Sica added another score in the third quarter on a 59-yard run and Jim th Shields kicked a 27-yard field goal upping the total to 38-0. Myron Maurer ended the Eagle scoring with a 1-yard run and Shields added his 6 PAT of the game. Carrollton ended the shutout bid with a 1-yard scoring run. FRANKENMUTH 45 - ESSEXVILLE-GARBER 0: The Eagles recorded their fourth shutout of the season with a convincing 45-0 victory over Garber. Mike Schmelzer opened the scoring for the Eagles scoring on a 4-yard run and Shields would add the first of his six PAT's for the game. Shields would up the score to 10-0 nd on a 28-yard field goal. Early in the 2 quarter, Myron Maurer hooked up with Scott Jacobs on a 70-yard pass play for six points. With four minutesth remaining in the half, Schmelzer added his second score on a 2-yard run. In the third quarter, Schmelzer added another TD on an 11-yard run. Paul Sica added two 4 quarter scores on runs of 6 and 5 yards. Eagle rushers totaled 227 yards rushing and Myron Maurer completed 8 of 14 passes for 200 yards, with Jacobs receiving seven receptions for 197 yards. Steve Heinlein recorded 10 tackles and Schmelzer added 9 tackles. FRANKENMUTH 37 - SWAN VALLEY 8: Frankenmuth clinched the Tri-Valley Conference Championship with a 37-8 victory over Swan Valley. Scott Jacobs took the opening kickoff 93-yards for a touchdown and Jim Shields added the PAT as the Eagles took an early 7-0 lead. Myron Maurer threw a TD strike to Jacobs for the Eagles second score and Shields added a 41-yard field goal as the Eagles lead 17-0 at the half. Frankenmuth added a third quarter score on Paul Sica's 7-yard run th and added two 4 quarter scores on Mike Weiss 3-yard run and Sica's run. With :43 remaining in the game, Swan Valley added their lone score on a 50-yard pass play. Frankenmuth had 304 yards offense to the Vikings 161 yards. Sica lead the rushers with 96 yards. FRANKENMUTH 28 - CARO 6: The Eagles ended the regular season with a 28-6 win over Caro. After a Neil Wilson interception, the Eagles scored first on a 37yard pass play from Myron Maurer to Scott Jacobs in the first quarter. Maurer connected with Mike Janssen late in the first quarter on a 27-yard pass play to up the Eagle lead to 14-0. thMaurer added his third TD pass of the 1st half, connecting with Jacobs on a 44-yard TD pass. Caro scored its lone TD late in the third quarter on a 1-yard run. In the 4 quarter, Maurer connected with Jacobs for a third time for an 84-yard TD strike. Jim Shields added his fourth PAT for the 28-6 final. Maurer completed four passes, all for touchdowns for 192 yards, with Jacobs catching three receptions for 165 yards. FRANKENMUTH 28 - CHEBOYGAN 21: The Eagles, in their first post-season contest, traveled to Cheboygan and defeated the Chiefs 28-21. Cheboygan scored first at the 7:16 mark of the 1st quarter on a 1-yard run to take an early 7-0 lead. After punter Jim Shields pinned Cheboygan deep in their own territory, Cheboygan punted and Mike Weiss partially blocked the punt and the Eagles took over on the 12-yard line and Paul Sica scored on the first play and Shields PAT tied the game at 7-7 late in the quarter. After Steve Heinlein blocked another Cheboygan punt, Myron Maurer connected with Scott Jacobs on an 18-yard TD pass mid way through the nd 2 quarter. Cheboygan tied the score on a 1-yard run. The Eagles regained the lead on Maurer's TD pass to Mike Schmelzer, but with no time remaining, Cheboygan tied the score at 21-21 at the half. Frankenmuth scored the game-winning points at the 3:23 mark of the third quarter as Schmelzer scored on nda 22-yard jaunt. Lance O'Donnell's interception was the key motivator in the score. With :13 seconds remaining in the game, O'Donnell sealed the victory with his 2 interception of the game. Cheyboygan out gained the Eagles 297 yards to 227 yards. Sica led the defense with 15 tackles while Mike Janssen added 10 tackles. Neil Wilson and Steve Heinlein each had 9 tackles and Heinlein recorded two sacks. FRANKENMUTH 10 - CHESANING 0: The Eagles traveled to Alma College and captured their first ever Regional Championship with a 10-0 victory over st Chesaning. Frankenmuth got two 1 quarter turnovers on Mike Schmelzer's fumble recovery and Scott Jacobs's interception to set up Jim Shields’ 25-yard field goal. After the Eagle defense stopped Chesaning again, Myron Maurer connected with Scott Jacobs on a 79-yard TD play to give the Eagles the final 10-0 score. Chesaning threatened three times in the second half, only to be denied each time. Mike Schmelzer intercepted a pass in the end zone to end one threat. Paul Sica contributed 10 tackles while Mike Janssen added nine and Mike Weiss and Steve Heinlein recorded seven each. Maurer collected 142 yards passing, going 6 of 9, with Jacobs hauling in three catches for 110 yards. GRAND RAPIDS CAHTOLIC CENTRAL 41 - FRANKENMUTH 7: Frankenmuth was eliminated from the playoffs with a 41-7 loss to Grand Rapids Catholic st Central. After a scoreless 1 quarter, Grand Rapids took the lead on a blocked punt and recovered in the end zone for their first score. Grand Rapids added a 9-yard th TD pass as they took a 14-0 lead into the half. Central would break the game open with three third quarter scores, each after a turnover. In the 4 quarter, Frankenmuth got on the scoreboard on Mike Schmelzer's 2-yard run. Central scored their final score with :15 seconds remaining in the game. Maurer ended up 8 of 22 passing for 92 yards. Jim Frank collected five catches for 56 yards. Neil Enciso had nine tackles and Neil Wilson contributed 8 tackles.
