Opinion Unit

We will identify the author’s opinion and the details that support the opinion within a text.

We can choose a topic that states our opinion and provides reasons/facts that support our opinion.

We will evaluate the strength of the author’s reasons which support the opinion (strong reasons vs. weak reasons).

We can include important reasons/ facts that support our opinion.

We will identify and explain the features of a persuasive text (topic statement, facts, opinions, personal experience, etc.).

We can use first grade transition words when writing our opinion and our reasons (My opinion is, I believe, One reason, Another reason, My final reason).

We will recognize that we make persuasive arguments in our daily lives.

We can include a personal experience to support our opinion. We can write a strong introduction to our opinion piece. We can write a strong conclusion to end my opinion writing.

We can count, compare and order numbers from 1 to 40.

We will be able to explain the properties of the three states of matter (solid, liquid and gas).
