1V1 DUELS Activity 1 – Quick Reaction Set up as per diagram. Balls are placed at distance apart depending on the age and skill of the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper starts 2 yards behind the balls. The server (S) turns and goes to one of the balls. The goalkeeper reacts and attacks the ball that the server is going to. Goalkeeper makes 6 saves then switches.

Activity 2 – 1v1 to Goal The server (S) plays ball forward, Striker runs on to ball and dribbles at goal for 1v1 with the goalkeeper. The angles and positions on the field should vary such as play from centre and opposite side. Have the server play longer balls in for the goalkeeper to decide if they want to come up and smother or play a 1v1. Have server play bouncing balls in. Add recovery defender. Add another Striker,

Activity 3 – 1v1 Goalkeeper Challenge Server (S) plays ball to first player in line. On the players 1st touch the goalkeeper is allowed to close down the player. The player goes 1v1 with the goalkeeper. Alternate the working goalkeeper on every play. The Goalkeeper who allows the fewest goals wins. You can also change the exercise by having the server feed balls into the player.

Have the goalkeepers understood the key coaching points fom the previous activity? Re-itterate the points as necessary. Take position behind the goal and to be able to make points to goalkeeper

Activity 4 – Small Sided Game Goalkeeper integrates with the team. Field size is reduced to a half field. Teams play 7v7 without restrictions. The idea is now to see if the goalkeeper has taken onboard the coaching points from the previous activities. Encourage quick decisions. Normal rules apply with corners, throw ins, goal kicks, etc.
