TAR HEELS HOST HIGH POINT IN 2017 FETZER FIELD OPENER u North Carolina (2-0), the 2016 NCAA champion and the nation’s top-ranked team thus far in 2017, will host High Point (0-0) on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. in Chapel Hill. The game will be the Tar Heels' first of the season at Fetzer Field after their game against James Madison on Feb. 4 was moved to Raleigh due to a water supply emergency in Chapel Hill. u The contest will be streamed live by ACC Network Extra and available via the WatchESPN app.

BIG WIN AT #3 FLORIDA u Ela Hazar tied her career high with six points as top-ranked Carolina posted a 13-10 win at No. 3 Florida on Feb. 11 in Gainesville, Fla. Sammy Jo Tracy scored three of her four goals in a 4-1 Tar Heel blitz in the final 3:49 of the game that turned a 9-9 tie into a 13-10 victory, UNC’s 19th in a row. u Molly Hendrick had three first-half goals, Carly Reed scored twice and Maggie Bill had a goal and an assist for Carolina. Sydney Holman scored a free position goal, while Marie McCool and Alex Moore each had assists. TAR HEELS DOWN JAMES MADISON IN OPENER u Marie McCool tied her career high with six goals and set a career high with eight points to lead top-ranked Carolina to a 16-14 victory over James Madison on Feb. 4. The Tar Heels scored eight consecutive goals to turn an 8-5 deficit late in the first half into a 13-8 lead midway through the second half. The game was played at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh instead of Chapel Hill because of a water supply emergency in Orange County. u McCool tied her career high with six goals, set previously in 2016 against Florida. She added two assists for a career-high eight points. UNC’S 2017 STATISTICAL LEADERS u Junior Maggie Bill, a preseason first-team All-America, returned to game action for the first time in two seasons after redshirting the 2016 campaign and scored three goals. Senior Molly Goals Marie McCool, 6 Molly Hendrick, 5 Hendrick scored twice, while senior Sydney Holman, junior Ela Hazar and sophomore Gianna Bowe Maggie Bill, 4 all had a goal and an assist for Carolina. Carly Reed and Charlotte Sofield added goals for UNC. Sammy Jo Tracy, 4 COUNTDOWN TO 300 WINS FOR LEVY u Jenny Levy has 297 career victories as a head coach, ranking third in NCAA Division I history. The 22nd-year Carolina coach needs three victories to become the third coach to win 300 career games. TAR HEELS TOP ACC PRESEASON POLL u The Atlantic Coast Conference’s eight coaches predicted North Carolina would win the nation’s toughest women’s lacrosse conference again in 2017, picking the Tar Heels first in the ACC Preseason Poll. u Carolina, the defending ACC regular season, ACC Tournament and NCAA champion, received 63 points in voting of the league’s coaches to take the top spot in the poll. Syracuse was second with 52 points, Notre Dame was third with 50 and Duke was fourth with 37.

ACC PRESEASON INDIVIDUAL HONORS u The Tar Heels dominated the Preseason All-ACC Team, nailing down six of 13 slots on the squad. The team included attackers Molly Hendrick and Sammy Jo Tracy, midfielders Marie McCool and Maggie Bill, defender Maggie Auslander and goalie Caylee Waters. FOUR TAR HEELS ON 2017 WORLD CUP TEAM u US Lacrosse and U.S. women’s senior team head coach Ricky Fried in January announced the 18-player U.S. Women’s National Team that will compete in the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women’s World Cup, July 12-22 in Guildford, England. u Four Carolina players made the squad: midfielder Marie McCool (class of 2018), midfielder Laura Zimmerman (2012), defender Kristen Carr (2010) and defender Jennifer Russell (2010). McCool is one of two current college players to make the cut, the other being fellow junior Gussie Johns, a goalie at USC. SEVEN PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA PICKS u North Carolina topped the 2017 FaceOff Yearbook Preseason All-America list with seven selections. Four Tar Heels earned firstteam honors in defender Maggie Auslander, midfielders Maggie Bill and Marie McCool and goalie Caylee Waters. Attackers Molly Hendrick and Sammy Jo Tracy led the second team, and midfielder Ela Hazar was an honorable mention preseason All-America. MAGGIE BILL RETURNS FROM REDSHIRT 2016 SEASON u Junior and preseason All-America Maggie Bill is back in action this spring with the Tar Heels after sitting out the 2015-16 academic year. She redshirted the 2016 lacrosse season after also redshirting the 2015 soccer season for the Tar Heels. 2016 SEASON REVIEW u Carolina posted its best season in 2016, winning the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season title with a perfect, 7-0 record, winning the ACC Tournament and capturing its second NCAA championship along the way.
