Raffaelli also had 4 steals and 8 rebounds. Mason outrebounded Owosso 33-19 on the night. Riane Ochodnicky had 7 points; Brittany Barone and Kat Kincaid had 2 apiece. Kate Jones finished the scoring with 1 point. Owosso 18, Waverly 57 - Owosso battled Waverly hard in a conference match up, but lost 57-18. Lauren Spicer led Owosso scorers with 6 points. She was also strong on the boards with 6 rebounds. Ellie Hood was fierce as well grabbing 4 rebounds. Anna Raffaelli added 5 points and 4 steals. Kate Jones contributed 4 and Riane Ochodnicky hit a three. Even though the score was lopsided, Coach Graham was pleased with her team’s competitive spirit, against a taller, stronger team. Owosso 23, St. Johns 46 - Visiting St. Johns beat Owosso 46-23 with an aggressive defensive play in the first half, limiting Owosso to just five points. Senior Kate Jones scored 6 points, including a 3. Other seniors, Lauren Spicer and Ellie Hood each contributed 4 points in their final home game. Brittany Barone dominated the boards with 8 rebounds. Owosso was also plagued by 22 turnovers. BOYS’ BASKETBALL – Owosso 44, Mason 36 - A strong defensive effort in the second half propelled the Trojans to a 44-36 win over visiting Mason. The Trojans held the visiting Bulldogs to 10 points in the second half, as the Bulldogs did not make a field goal after the 6:08 mark of the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs scored their last points at the 5:08 mark on a pair of free throws. Meanwhile the Trojans ended the game on an 11-0 run to pull out the victory. The Trojans got off to a quick start with Jordan Klapko hitting a 3-point shot 10 seconds into the game. The Trojans built a lead of 10-4 only to have the Bulldogs cut the lead to two at the end of the quarter. The Bulldogs went on a 10-0 run to start the second quarter and built a commanding 26-18 lead to end the quarter. The third quarter saw the Bulldogs build their lead to 29-18 when the Trojans slowly fought their way back into the game and cut the lead to four points at the end of the third quarter. The Trojans took the lead 38-36 with 3:30 left when Jakob Ackley had a shot blocked but got his own rebound and scored on a good effort put back. The win was not secured until the 35 second mark when Gerritt Springsdorf came up

with a big defensive rebound and Drake Nover was fouled and Drake made both free throws to give the Trojans a three possession lead at 43-36. Owosso 42, Waverly 53 - The difference of the game tonight was found at the free throw line. The Trojans shot 100% from the line but unfortunately, they only shot one free throw. The Warriors outscored the Trojans 14-1 from the charity stripe as the Warriors made 21 trips to the line to the Trojans one. The Trojans tried to make up for the discrepancy from beyond the arc making a season high nine three point shots. The first quarter saw the Trojans falling behind 7-0 before they were able to get on the board with a basket by Jordan Klapko. The Trojans however were never able to get the lead closer than eight points. The second quarter saw the Trojans outscoring the Warriors 10-6 while holding the Warriors to only two field goals. The third quarter saw the most scoring of the night with both teams scoring 17 points. The Warriors opened the third quarter with a made 3-point basket to extend the lead to seven points but Jakob Ackley followed up the possession with a 3-point basket of his own. The Trojans were able to as close two points at 29-27 when Jordan Klapko hit one of his game high four 3-point baskets. The Warriors then scored six unanswered points to stretch the lead to eight points. But the Trojans ended the quarter on an 8-4 run to end the quarter with a deficit of 39-35. The game was tight most of the fourth quarter. With 2:50 to go in the game and the Warriors up 47-39, Drake Nover converted a layup and the only free throw of the game for Owosso to make it a 47-42 game. The Trojans would get no closer. Owosso 55, St. Johns 64 - The Trojans lost another hard fought game. Midway through the first quarter, the Trojans found themselves down 15-4 and needing to dig themselves out of a hole. Unfortunately, a four-point effort in the second quarter led to the Redwings expanding their lead to 16 at halftime. A three-point basket by St. Johns built the lead to 19 points at 32-13 to start the third quarter. It was then that Trojans slowly started to climb out of the hole that was dug. The lead at the end of the quarter was 43-29 but the Trojans were chipping away at the lead. Jordan Klapko started the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 11. The Trojans scored a season high 26 points in the fourth quarter and cut the lead to six points 52-46 on a pair of Klapko free throws with 3:20 remaining. The Redwings extended the lead to nine points at 57-48 but Jordan Klapko hit another 3-point shot to cut the lead again to six points with 49 seconds left. The Trojans got within five points when Jakob Ackley hit a 3-point basket to make the score 60-55 with 32 seconds left. Jake Ackley led the Trojans with a season high 21 points while also notching 4 assists and 5 steals. Jordan Klapko added 16 points and 5 rebounds, and Drake Nover added 12 points. WRESTLING – Two Trojans advanced to the MHSAA Individual State Finals to be held at the Palace of Auburn Hills March 2-4. Senior Joe Vondrasek advanced by placing 3rd, and freshman, Colton Blaha advanced by placing 4th at the regional meet held at Marysville HS. Also, congratulations to Coach, Matt Vondrasek. He was named assistant coach of the year by the Michigan Wrestling Association.

BOYS’ SWIM AND DIVE – No competitions this week as the Trojans prepare for the CAAC Conference meet February 24-25 at Mason HS. COMPETITIVE CHEER – Congratulations to the Varsity Competitive Cheer

team. Last Friday, they advanced from the MHSAA district competition held at Kearsley High School to the MHSAA regional meet at Fenton High School. This is the first time in school history that the Trojans have advanced this far in the tournament. Join us this Saturday at Fenton at 10 AM to cheer them on. BOYS’ BOWLING –
