Formal Garden Quilt Block Pattern

6 inch block – 2 ½ inch half square triangles 9 inch block – 3 ½ inch half square triangles 12 inch block – 4 ½ inch half square triangles

Uses 3 different fabrics Fabric A - center square Cut 1 square - 2 ½ inches (3 ½ inches, 4 ½ inches) Fabric B - spokes from center square Cut 4 squares - 3 ½ inches (4 ½ inches, 5 ½ inches) Fabric C - background fabric Cut 4 squares - 3 ½ inches (4 ½ inches, 5 ½ inches) Set aside the center square.

Sew 8 half square triangles, 2 at a time. Align 1 Fabric B square with 1 Fabric C square right sides together.

Mark a diagonal across wrong side of the square.

Make another mark 1/4 inch from the original diagonal on either side of the first diagonal mark. This will result in 3 lines drawn from corner to corner each 1/4 inch apart.

Sew along the two outer drawn lines. Cut along the center diagonal line carefully leaving enough fabric for a 1/4 inch seam allowance on each half. Press toward the darker fabric.

Repeat for all 4 Fabrics B and C square combinations. You should now have 8 half square triangles as well as the center square.

Place all 9 blocks so that the center square is in the middle and the half square triangle form the shape of spokes radiating from the center.

Sew the rows of 3 together.

Press the center row inward and the top and bottom rows outward.

Matching up the squares, sew the rows together.

You now have the Formal Garden Quilt Block.
