2008 Annual Report Editor: Cathy Plevy

Messages and Statistics Chief Ronald A. Ricucci

The purpose of this annual report is to provide information about your Police Department, about crime in the City of Takoma Park, accomplishments of the Department and to explain how everyone can make our community safer. In 2008, we saw a slight decrease in crime, overall, from 2007. While there are many factors that influence the crime rate, we have been focusing heavily on street robberies and burglaries. We have set up special burglary and robbery details with officers working around the clock to combat the problem. Near the end of 2008, thefts from auto became a recurring offense. We are addressing this through plainclothes patrols and crime prevention. Theft of personal property has a major influence upon our residents. Our new crime analysis capabilities make a difference as well. The City of Takoma Park Police Department will work diligently in 2009 to continue to make a positive change. We will continue to do all that we can to ensure a safe place to live and work for all of our visitors and residents. The City of Takoma Park appreciates the support by all members of the community. As your Chief, it is my job to earn and keep your trust by providing a high caliber police service. I remain committed to that task, as do the men and women who work for the police department.
