11am Sunday 4 December 2016 City of Portsmouth A.C. have been promoting a 5 mile road race since 1946 and this year will celebrate its 70th anniversary.

Over this time, the course has changed several times and currently enjoys a single lap course comprising of Stamshaw Promenade & Lakeside North Harbour. The race has become one of the top 5 mile races in Europe, attracting many leading runner from the UK and overseas. The outright race records are held by Rob Denmark in 22.43 and Nnenna Lynch (USA) in 25.35. The current course records are held by Peter Emase (Kenya) in 22.57 and Agnes Chebet (Kenya) in 26.43. The race will have chip timing and starts and finishes on the athletic track at the Mountbatten Centre, The Mountbatten Centre has excellent facilities for changing and enjoying pre or post race refreshments The race is suitable for all abilities and first-timers are most welcome. There is an extensive prize list of over £3500 in value. With race record and course record bonuses. Veteran prizes in 5 year age groups from ages 40 80. VICTORY 1 MILE This is an additional event and is open to runners of 9 years and above. The start and finish will be on the athletic track. The race will have chip timing and be on the certified 1 mile course. This is a great opportunity to record a time over this historic distance. Medal to all finishers.
