Head Coach Michael Zolecki Michael Zolecki returns to the Cardinal Stritch University Wolves baseball program for his eighth season as head coach. With the Stritch baseball program entering its 20th season of existence, Zolecki returns as one of the longest tenured coaches in the program’s short history. Prior to becoming the Wolves’ fifth head coach, Zolecki spent three seasons as the program’s pitching coach. Over that span, he helped improve the young arms of the staff by decreasing the team’s earned run average by one run every season. Through his skills of development, Coach Zolecki has coached 12 NAIA Region VII Scholar-Athletes, eleven Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) All-Conference athletes, eight of which were selected as honorable mention. The leader of the pack has also made sure that his positive impact on the program hasn’t stopped after stepping out of the coach’s box. Not only serving as the head baseball coach, Zolecki is also the departments point person for outside marketing for the Cardinal Stritch University Athletic Department. Along with trying to build a winning tradition on the field, Zolecki has taken steps to ensuring educational success for his players. He has helped guide the program’s players to achieving a team GPA of 2.86. Coach Zolecki continues to bring a wealth of experience to the Wolves baseball program that generates from his own successes as a baseball player. Zolecki, a standout pitcher from Thomas More High School in Milwaukee, Wis. went on to be a three-year letterman at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Tex. Playing for the Rattlers, Zolecki was a key pitcher for the programs run to a school record 45 wins in the 1993 season where he averaged nearly 11 strikeouts per nine innings pitched while firing bee-bees over 96 innings. Adding to that, Zolecki registered the eighth highest total of strikeouts by any pitcher at the university with 115 strikeouts that season, helping him earn a selection to the Heart of Texas All-Conference team. With Zolecki’s tremendous individual contributions as a player, as a member of a team that had two 40-plus win seasons and won two conference championships, he will forever be remembered as a Rattler, having been elected a member of the university’s Hall of Fame and inducted in January of 2008. Zolecki rode the waves of his collegiate success as a player to an even higher level as he was drafted in the fifth round of the 1993 amateur baseball draft by the Colorado Rockies. By 1994, Zolecki was rated as a top-10 prospect within the Rockies organization. Playing a total of six seasons, Zolecki played as high as AA and was a member of the Rockies and Chicago White Sox organizations before turning his eyes towards coaching. Coach Zolecki currently holds a Bachelors in Marketing from St. Mary’s University and a Masters in Sport Management. He and his wife Courtney resides in Milwaukee, Wis.

Mlachnik will get you in When Stritch has runners on base they can count on Dean Mlachnik (Muskego, Wis.) to get them in. Mlachnik currently leads the team with 15 RBI always has a chance to increase that total thanks to the on base percentages of Sterling Smith (Lombard, Ill.) and Mike Ploch (Burlington, Wis.) who are on base 45 percent of the time. Klein Starts with ‘K’ Senior left-hander Andy Klein has used the strikeout to keep opposing hitters off base early in the season. Klein has 24 strikeouts in 20 innings with 12, a Stritch single game record, coming against DeSales University. Cold Weather can’t cool off the hot bat of Blair Senior OF/P Paul Blair (Lakewood, Cal.) has started off the season with a hot bat. Blair is 9-for-25 this year, which is good for a .360 batting average. He also is tied for the team lead with two homeruns. Where’s Ploch? He’s on base While splitting time in the outfield and pinch-hitting Mike Ploch (Burlington, Wis.) has done an amazing job getting on base. The senior outfielder is leading the team with a .467 batting average and is tied for the team lead in on-base percentage at 45 percent. Beck Solid with the glove The transition from catcher to first base has been a smooth one for freshman Colter Beck (Genoa City, Wis.). Beck has made no errors in 68 chances so far this year. His solid defense is a great asset to the Wolves. Buddy in for Bahm Backup catcher Buddy Herberg (Chicago, Ill.) has done an excellent job filling in for starting catcher John Bahm (Justice, Ill.) who was injured in the first game of the season. Since joining the starting lineup Herberg has hit .308 and collected ten walks. A Mixed Bag in Texas Stritch returned from their annual Spring Break trip to San Antonio, Texas with mixed emotions. The Wolves came home with a 3-4 record on the trip earning victories against DeSales and Schreiner Universities but, dropped games against Trinity and Southwest Universities. Stritch started off with two extra inning ball games versus DeSales in which the teams split the doubleheader. The Wolves took the field two days later and swept Schreiner University 6-4 and 14-6 thanks to complete games from Nate Friday (Glendale, Wis.) and Marcus Perleberg (Oconomowoc, Wis.). Stritch ended the trip with hard fought losses to Trinity and Southwest Universities.
