Alliance Trust Savings continues to see demand for Investment Trusts and ETFs Alliance Trust Savings has announced it has seen a big upturn in demand for Investment Trusts and ETFs over the last year. In the 12 months to 31 October 2013, Alliance Trust Savings saw investment trust assets grow by £635 million on platform, taking total assets to £2.599 billion just under 50% of the total assets administered. Over the same period, Alliance Trust Savings has seen assets of Exchange Traded Funds grow by 32%. Cofunds recently announced it was to abandon its tie up with Barclays Stockbrokers to list investment trusts and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) on its platform. The lack of availability of Investment Trusts on fund supermarkets such as Skandia and Fidelity FundsNetwork has previously been criticised by the Association of Investment Companies (AIC), which believes demand will only increase if the larger supermarkets offer closed end funds. Clients on the Alliance Trust Savings platform can now purchase over 80 investment trusts online with the standard online dealing purchase charge of £12.50* being waived. The ‘IT’s free’ dealing campaign will run from 18 November until 31 December 2013 to coincide with the platforms ‘Taking Stock’ magazine which features articles from the UK’s leading investment trust providers and is available to download free of charge on the Alliance Trust Savings website. *Applies to online trades only during market trading hours.Full terms and conditions can be found a twww.alliancetrustsavings.co.uk/free

Patrick Mill, managing director, Alliance Trust Savings, commented: “The onset of RDR has created a level playing field for advisers to recommend investment trusts alongside open ended funds. Our figures clearly demonstrate the worth of offering investment trusts and ETFs on platforms, offering both advisers and consumers as broad a range of assets as possible to consider.”
