2012 Southern Connecticut State University Men’s Soccer Notes • Matches 6-7 Southern Connecticut (4-0-1, 3-0-1 NE-10) at LeMoyne College (2-5, 1-3 NE-10) Sept. 25 • Syracuse, NY • 4 p.m. Southern Connecticut vs. Merrimack College (4-2-1, 2-2 NE-10) Sept. 30 • New Haven, Conn. • 1 p.m. AHEAD THIS WEEK The Southern Connecticut State University men’s soccer team will be on road this Tuesday when they travel to Syracuse, N.Y. to take on LeMoyne College at 4 p.m. On Sunday, the Owls will be back home when they welcome Merrimack College to Jess Dow Field at 1 p.m. OWLS TIE AGAINST SAINT MICHAEL’S SCSU came away with a tie last Saturday, 2-2 against Saint Michael’s College. Senior Luke Perry scored his first goal of the season and fellow senior Mario DiMiceli also added a goal giving him five on the season. OWLS PREVAIL OVER NEW HAVEN Daquan King scored his third goal of this season in a 2-0 win last Tuesday against the University of New Haven. Mario Costa added a goal late in the match on a penalty kick to seal the victory. CUMPSTONE RECORDS THIRD SHUTOUT Goalkeeper Greg Cumpstone recorded his third shutout last Tuesday blanking the New Haven Chargers 2-0. Cumpstone now has three shutouts in four victories for the Owls. LEADING THE WAY Senior forward Mario DiMiceli has a team high five goals on the year, which also ranks in the top five in the conference. Senior Luke Perry and redshirt junior Ross McGibney lead the team in assists with two. OWLS RANKED REGIONALLY SCSU was ranked fifth in the latest NSCAA East regional poll. OWLS STAY PERFECT SCSU had their first road test on Sept. 15 at Stonehill and were able to escape with a victory, as it beat the Skyhawks 1-0. The win improved their record to 3-0 on the season. The game was scoreless until Doural Scott scored his first goal of the year in the 81st minute. OWLS DEFEAT DOWLING AT HOME The Owls were in action on Sept. 11 at home when they defeated Dowling College 2-1 to get their second win. Mario DiMiceli scored his fourth goal of the season late in the first half, which proved to be the difference in the match.

CUMPSTONE RECORDS SECOND SHUTOUT Graduate student Greg Cumpstone recorded his second shutout of the season on Sept. 15 in a 1-0 win against Stonehill. Cumpstone made a terrific, diving save in the 77th minute to keep the shutout intact. DiMICELI EARNS WEEKLY HONORS Senior Mario DiMiceli was selected to the Northeast-10 weekly Conference Honor Roll on Sept. 11 for his performance against the College of Saint Rose.

DiMiceli’s hat trick was the first for the Owls since Harry Appiah did it back in 2009. A FIRST FOR COSTA Senior Mario Costa scored a goal in the 4-0 win over Saint Rose. This marked Costa’s first career goal. WELCOME TO THE CLUB The Owls welcome 10 newcomers - Mario DiMiceli, Josh Abromaitis, Mads Larsen, Greg Cumpstone, Jonas Folstad, Daquan King, Matthew Gilmore, Luke Cantin, Steven Smith and Josh Gustafson - to this year’s squad. IN SEASON OPENERS The Owls are now 30-9-6 all-time in season openers. IN THE NE-10 PRESEASON POLLS SCSU was selected fifth in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason poll, as voted by the league’s coaches. ALL-TIME VS. LEMOYNE COLLEGE SCSU leads the all-time series against LeMoyne by a 14-3-1 margin. ALL-TIME VS MERRIMACK SCSU leads the all-time series against Merrimack by a 11-2-1 margin. LOOKING BACK AT 2011 The Southern Connecticut State University men’s soccer team capped off the 2011 season with an overall mark of 8-8-1. The Owls were nationally ranked as high as No. 12 during the year and also qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament.

TEMPLETON RAKES IN ACADEMIC HONORS Senior Paul Templeton was selected as an Academic AllAmerican by the College Sports Information Directors of America (Third-Team honoree) for his work in the classroom and on the pitch during the 2011 season. He was also named an Academic All-Region selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. DUO NAMED NE-10 ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE Paul Templeton and Yoni Feldman were both named to the Northeast-10 Conference Men’s Soccer All-Academic Team following the conclusion of the 2011 season. Both were also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team. STRONG CAREER COMES TO A CLOSE In addition to an array of academic honors, Paul Templeton was also selected to the All-Region and All-ECAC teams for his play in 2011. OWLS THRIVE INDIVIDUALLY IN THE CLASSROOM Thirteen members of the 2011 squad were named to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for their efforts in the classroom during the 2011-12 academic year. PERRY MAKES A QUICK IMPACT Luke Perry finished second on the club with 11 points (four goals, three assists) in his first season with the Owls in 2011. LARA POSTS NEW CAREER NUMBERS Junior Francisco Lara set new career-highs in goals (three), assists (two) and points (eight) during the 2011 season ON DECK SCSU will be on the road next Wednesday, Oct 3 at 7 p.m. when they travel to Franklin Pierce.
