Under first year Head Coach, Lyndsay Bisaccio, the 2012 men’s and women’s cross country teams each finished as Runners-Up at the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championships. Sophomore’s Brianne Dunn and Emily Urquhart earned NAC First Team accolades for their performance. Junior Emily Davis and sophomore Caila Walker were named to the NAC Second Team. Sophomore Hayden Bunnell earned a nod to the NAC First Team, while sophomore Bobby Hoffman and freshman Jon Murray were named to the NAC Second Team.

The equestrian team, which competes in the fall and spring, had three riders qualify for the Regional Championship held at Dartmouth in the spring. Andy Chase, Meredith Cromis and Maggie Gousse each won their classes at the final show of the spring at Middlebury. Maggie was Reserve High Point Rider at UNH in the fall. The team also had great performances from the underclassmen, which included freshman Juli Lovington as the High Point Rider at UNH in the spring.

Field Hockey

The 2012 Colby-Sawyer field hockey team finished the season with a 5-10 overall record and outscored their opponents 13-3 in the five wins. Colby-Sawyer nearly doubled its win total from a season ago in its second year as a varsity program. The team was comprised of 12 freshmen, 11 sophomore’s and one junior. Freshman Taylor O’Connor led the team with eight points on four goals, while sophomore Katharine Kessler was second with seven points on three goals and an assist. Freshman Jodi Dumayne finished the season with 100 saves and ranked 34th in the nation with 8.33 saves per game.

Men’s Soccer

The men’s soccer team went 5-11-2 overall and 4-5 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC). The Chargers reached the postseason for the 17th time in the past 18 years. Sophomore Chris DiCecca led the team with four goals. Freshman Michael Rooney and sophomore Ram Khalsa were tied for second with three goals. Two of Khalsa’s three tallies were game-winners. Sophomore Carlton Wheeler-Omiunu was named Second Team AllConference after a consistent season leading the Chargers’ backline. Sophomore Nick Austin started 13 games in net and recorded 84 saves, which ranked him 44th in the nation for saves per game at 6.46.

Women’s Soccer

The women’s soccer team had the most successful season in program history. The Chargers finished the season 15-4-4 overall and went unbeaten in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) regular season at 8-0-1. The team reached a conference championship game for the first time since 1997 and made the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament for the first time ever. The team recorded the most ever wins in a season with 15. First year Head Coach, Meghan Medbery, was named NAC Coach of the Year after guiding the team to an unblemished NAC regular season. Senior Colleen Coburn, senior Shay Spencer, and junior Adrienne Bender landed on the NAC All-Conference First Team. Spencer has a school record 32 wins and ranks in the top ten in saves and goals against average. She ranked 11th in the nation with a .886 save percentage. Bender climbed the all-time career lists in points (6th, 85) and goals (6th, 32).

Women’s Volleyball

The 2012 women’s volleyball team made a second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament after running the table in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play. The Chargers finished the season with an 18-14 overall record and a perfect 7-0 record in NAC play for the second straight year. The team did not drop a set against a NAC team. The NAC Championship earned the Chargers a trip to the 2012 NCAA tournament and the fifth bid in program history. Sophomore Jackie Keating was named NAC Player of the Year. Junior Ally Le-Bruno was honored as the conference Defensive Player of the Year for the second-straight season. Freshman Laura Smolinski enjoyed a stellar first season at Colby-Sawyer, earning Rookie of the Year honors. Keating, LeBruno, and junior Courtney O’Hara were all named to the All-NAC First Team, while junior Emilee McBride earned a nod to the Second Team. Head Coach Brett Sayer was named North Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Alpine Ski Racing

The alpine ski team continued its transition into the most competitive league in collegiate skiing: the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA). This year’s strong freshman class pulled in some great results, with Matt Nolan and Miles Derrick each winning FIS races on the men’s side, and some strong top-30 finishes all year long on the women’s side. The men’s team fought through a lot of injuries, but was led by captain Patrick Tingle, who was ranked in the top-30 in the EISA for the first half of the season. The women’s team was one of the most consistent team’s in the EISA and was led by sophomore Courtney Troxell.

The Chargers went 14-13 overall and 13-5 in the NAC, reaching the semifinal game. The program reached the 400-win plateau in its final victory of the season. Senior Corey Willis, who was named to the All-NAC Second Team, graduates as the all-time leader in assists with 493. He also ranked fifth in the nation this season with a 3.24 assist to turnover ratio. Sophomore Mike Dias was named All-NAC First Team. Freshman Wol Majong was named N.H. Division III Basketball Coaches Association Rookie of the Year. Dias was named to the First Team.

Women’s Basketball

The women’s basketball team won its first North Atlantic Conference (NAC) title in just the second year of affiliation. The conference title was the program’s seventh, which earned the team a seventh trip to the NCAA Tournament. Senior Taylor DeSanty was named NAC Player of the Year for the second straight season and landed on the First Team with senior teammate Cailin Bullett. Head Coach George Martin was named Coach of the Year and the Chargers earned the Team Sportsmanship Award. DeSanty also was named to the NEWBA All-Region Second Team and D3hoops.com All-Region Third Team. Bullett graduates as the all-time leader in assists with 583 and ranked sixth in the nation this year with 6.1 assists per game. DeSanty leaves as the all-time leader in points, three-pointers, and field goals. The team ranked seventh in the nation with in FG% defense at 30.7.

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams enjoyed a season that sent 20 members to the New England Championships and six to the ECAC Championships. Throughout the season, 13 school records were broken. Freshman Samantha Dalphond broke three diving records. Freshman Emma Nagle set a record in the 50 butterfly, while junior Erin Dunican set a new mark in the 100 breaststroke. Junior Keenan Bartlett set a record in the 200 IM. Sophomore Krystyna Estrada broke three freestyle records and added a new standard in the 100 IM. The women’s team also had three relay records broken.

The baseball team finished the NAC regular season with a 14-10 record and earned the 3rd seed in the conference tournament. The Chargers are 1917 overall and will play second seed Husson in the first round of the tournament. The pitching staff is having another solid year on the mound keeping opponents to a .281 batting average, which is a school record. The team also has a school record eight shutouts. Colby-Sawyer is ranked in the top15 in the nation for fewest walks per nine innings for the second straight season.

Women’s Lacrosse

The women’s lacrosse team went 7-9 overall and was 4-2 in the NAC standings, which was the third best mark in the league. Senior’s Laurel Bauer and Ashley Reis were named to the All-NAC First Team, while senior Amanda Murray was named to the All-NAC second team. Bauer exits Colby-Sawyer ranked in the top-10 all-time in career points, goals and assists. The Chargers were ranked 25th in the nation in caused turnovers with over 11 per game. The 2013 senior class was one of the most successful classes in program history with 29 total wins and an ECAC appearance.

The women ran the table in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division play and won the East Division Championship. The Chargers will play Penn. St. Berks (winners of the West Division) on May 5, with a trip to the NCAA Tournament on the line. The Chargers finished the fall season with an overall record of 16-2 and a conference record of 9-0. The team now sits at 17-4, which ties a school record for most wins in a season. Junior Liz Lincoln was named NEAC East Division Player of the Year. Lincoln was joined by teammates Charlotte Horton, Ashlyn Ramsay and Claire Toffey on the All-Conference squad. Ramsay was named Rookie of the Year. Lincoln and Toffey combined to earn a spot on the all-conference doubles team, while Ramsay and Donna Gordon also represented Colby-Sawyer. Gordon registered a single-season record for doubles victories with 20. Toffey became Colby-Sawyer’s all-time leader in career doubles victories with 57 and moved into third on the all-time career victories list with 100. She also ranks sixth in career singles victories with 43. The men’s team also went undefeated in conference play on the way to winning a second straight North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division crown. The Chargers will play Rutgers-Camden (winners of the West Division) on May 5, with the winner earning a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Colby-Sawyer won 53 of the possible 54 points during the NAC regular season and finished the NAC Tournament with a pair of 9-0 sweeps over Lyndon in the semifinals and Thomas in the finals.

Track and Field

The men’s and women’s track and field teams are having another great year. Colby-Sawyer will send 11 studentathletes to the New England Championships hosted by Colby. The team will also send a pair of athletes to the ECAC Championships at Springfield. Seven new men’s records were set this season. Hayden Bunnell set new marks in the 1500m, 5000m, 10000m and the 3000m steeplechase. Rasheed Foster now holds the record in the 200 meter dash, while Jesse Socci has the shot put record. The 4x800 relay team of Hayden Bunnell, Ben Bunnell, DJ Ayotte, and Bobby Hoffman are new record holders. The women’s team saw five new records set this year. Tallon Tomasi set a new standard in the 200 meter dash, while Liz Sullivan improved on her own school record in the pole vault. Dani Perry set a record in the 400 meter hurdles and also was a member of the 4x100 and 4x400 record setting relay teams. The 4x100 team included Perry, Tomasi, Carrie Smith and Bre Brown, while the 4x400 team was comprised of Perry, Tomasi, Courtney Figucia, and Paige O’Malley.

Colby-Sawyer College Athletic Facilities The Dan and Kathleen Hogan Sports Center is the heart of indoor athletics and fitness on campus. The 63,000-square-foot facility features a competition-size swimming pool (Knight Natatorium), field house with basketball and volleyball courts, an aerobics room, and racquetball, squash, walleyball and handball courts.

There is also a fully equipped fitness center for team use, for individual athletes and for students’ personal fitness. Mercer Hall houses the Ray Indoor Climbing Wall, as well as a human performance laboratory that provides computerized health and fitness assessments.

Dedicated in October of 1999, the Kelsey Athletic Fields are some of New England’s finest. Featuring a 120 x 80 yard soccer field, a multipurpose field and a baseball field, the surfaces and views are unparalleled. The soccer field features newly added bleachers with seating for 300 spectators to sit and cheer on the Chargers.

Also included in the outdoor athletic facilities are the Kelsey Tennis Courts, recently refinished in U.S. Open blue, and Mercer Field, the home to Colby-Sawyer’s field hockey and lacrosse programs.
