President Report/Agenda (Karen)
Treasurer (Brian Besch)

Ross Kelley resigned last week effective immediately. Dave and Paul will fill in for PW level D10 meeting; Tim Timm brought up situation regarding goalies and find a way to get more goalies onto teams. Would like to champion SFYHA to promote developing goalies in our association and try our best to have 2 goalies on each team. It isn’t a good situation to be in with lack of goalies and something for us to think about and plan for. o Dave comments – the only way to champion more goalies is to champion for full rosters (15 skaters/2 goalies) o Scott White – is there ways to provide additional incentives or ways to promote goalies? Answer is yes… we need to think outside the box. o Brian – need to get at MITES and SQUIRTS. o Dave – a lot of thoughts need to go into this about cost and need to be careful o Joel – can we have our goalies skate free? Goalies get credits based upon off-season goalie training o Benson’s – we spend a lot of money for goalie training. We receive a ‘mark down’ for the winter hockey season, but goalies do not necessarily have a dedicated goalie coach on each team. The goalies are standing in net and getting shot on, not necessarily developing goalie skills like the skaters are developing during a team practice. Goalies get outside help and that costs. o Scott White – need to instill into the coaches to also look for those kids who wants to be goalie. o Dave – Favor for finding ways to make the goalies work. We need to keep in mind the whole picture so as not to push pressure on all families and increase costs more than they are. We need to do a better job at assigning coaches responsibilities to be specific for goalies. o Scott – would we be better getting a goalie person to come in and be with the kids or teach our coaches? o Having a goalie coach during practice time can be good as the coach should be watching what the drills are doing and help correct anything that happens. When the goalie coaches comes in and take ¼ of the ice it becomes disruptive. Roster sign off went well. We only had one small issue. Mite roster sign off is Dec 7th. We have 187 skaters registered o We have 2 D teams of 11+/- for D mites. Hopefully our promotion for D mites worked. Something to continue in future. o 11 Super Saints We have decided to NOT host a MN Hockey Day outside festival due to MN Hockey day being held in Elk River. We will hopefully resume our MN Hockey day of fun next season. A committee needs to be formed prior to season ending for next year to ensure we have commitment and people working on it. Ice Bills have been sent out; bills due Dec 15th. Need B&C Mite teams. Calendars have been distributed. Due back Dec 15th. Question about ice fees from Heidi Cedarstrand? o Why ice fees divided by team member #’s instead of by total # of players in the level. We have PW teams which have less players than the others o Brian – that is a fair statement and something similar that what have been thinking about. Agree with your theory, we hate sending bills. o This is something we will introduce for next year. We currently have $50K in outstanding bills Jan 1st No Pay/No Play. Age directors – managers MUST collect tournament fees.

Heather – questions have been received about amount of hours w/o locker room credits. Heather has a list of events, we need to know about outdoor rink, raffle baskets, heggies in spring and SKATE banquet and D10 tournaments...Parents are nervous. The outdoor rink is going to take up a HUGE amount of hours. o Dave – can we help with the HS with front door $ collection? – YES o Mr. Tollefson – what if there are two sets of hours? Association wide hours vs. team support hours. Can we spell out the difference in our volunteer policy? Look at policy to find a way to better phrase the policy
Brigit – for next year we need to find a way to ensure they provide checks
Provided final form. This is for HS kids and lower. Anyone over 18 needs a USA Hockey and background check. Motion – Dave; Chris – 100%
Goalie Clinics (Shannon Young)
Will get a list of coaches and goalies. Will allow skaters to sign up as ‘skaters/shooters’ for Goalie Clinics. Will keep it fair.

Tollefson’ s: o Struggling with Volunteer Policy and team. Parents not willing to volunteer and help, specifically with regards to Locker Room monitor. D10 has verbiage in their policy which states non-coach and gender specific options instead of having gender specific monitor inside locker room. o Jen proposed to change verbiage to help teams out with gender specific rules. This could include a non-gender specific person to monitor from directly outside door. Will investigate other association and MN Hockey verbiage, along with D10. As a reminder, Tim Timm stated in October, that there is no D10 or MN Hockey verbiage stating a monitor has to stand inside the locker room. There should be room to redesign the verbiage to help our parents. o Dave pointed that the policy should have verbiage that a monitor/parent should NOT take physical action to break up any ruckus/fights. This keeps the parents and associations safe from retribution. o Board will review bullet #3 & 4 and and find a way to rephrase the policy to help promote the ability of all parents to help with this task, as it is important to have a monitor and to keep our children safe.
