2013 Red Wine The Legend of Su Yuen There once was a beautiful but spoiled Chinese princess, Su Yuen, whose tastes for food were legendary. Her father, the king, decreed that his chefs should create wonderful delicacies for her — but that she must always have something new. The penalty was death if they ever repeated the same dish twice. Thus, the tradition of Dim Sum was born. Wine for a World of Flavors In some ways we are all picky princesses that want to enjoy a variety of different cuisines. After all, who wants to eat the same food at every meal? Su Yuen wines are specifically crafted to pair with a wide range of foods and flavors.
2013 Su Yuen Red Wine For the past few vintages, we’ve created our Su Yuen Red largely, if not entirely, from Syrah. This vintage we opted to create a red blend using Merlot, Grenache and Syrah, in part because 2013 was such a stellar vintage that produced really exceptional fruit. While we strive to create a lighter, fruitier style of wine that pairs well with food, we use special techniques and very little oak in order to diminish tannins and enhance the fresh fruit character and aromatic spice notes. 2013 was an ideal vintage as a result of light precipitation and steady, moderate temperatures that allowed the fruit to ripen slowly. While we select vineyards whose fruit tends to elicit a lighter-bodied wine, the season’s perfect conditions helped us achieve a wine that’s well balanced with rich fruit character, supple on the palate and brimming with fragrant flavors of wild berries, cherries, allspice and earthy minerals. Pairs perfectly with: Pulled pork sandwich Shredded beef taquitos
Glazed spare ribs Spinach quiche
Barbecued salmon Aged cheeses
