WOW! What a change in Spring weather between 2012 & 2013! We can only hope this is a sign of a better summer in store for us. In spite of the severe weather delays, it appears planting is progressing along at a rapid rate. I recently read where farmers in the U.S. set a new record for corn acres planted in one week. Approximately 41.8 million acres of corn went in the ground from May 13 - May 19. That’s a pretty impressive week and I think proves that with modern equipment, the aid of modern technology and determination, today’s farmer can get a lot done in a short window. In fact, we heard reports of many of our clients running planters in shifts to keep them going 24 hrs/day. As always, as we enter wheat harvest and go through the growing season for spring crops, please keep your Service Rep informed of what you’re seeing on your farm. The sooner we can know of any potential issues the easier it is for us to ensure everything goes smoothly. Sincerely,

Henry Scherer—President, Ag Risk Solutions [email protected]

IMPORTANT!

WHEAT REVENUE LOSSES

IMPORTANT!

As of now, it looks like the wheat Harvest Price will be significantly lower than the Base Price ($8.78 in KS). For those of you carrying Revenue Protection coverage, this will substantially increase your yield guarantee! For producers in Kansas the Harvest Price will average off the July KCBOT wheat contract during the month of June. If the markets stay where they are we’re looking at about an 18% increase in your yield guarantee. As you harvest, try to keep very good production records in case you end up in an unexpected claim situation and notify your Service Rep immediately if you suspect you might have a claim. 1

PREVENTED PLANTING With the surprisingly cold, wet weather we have had this Spring we know that many of you were unable to get your crops planted as soon as you would have liked. We also know that some up you did not get as much of the crop planted as you had intended. Your MPCI crop insurance policy includes coverage for being prevented from planting. Prevented Planting claims can be very complex and require the insured to make some complicated decisions. Once you have reached the final planting date (varies by crop & county) for the crop and you do not have it planted you essentially have four options: 1) Plant the crop in the late planting period and receive reduced coverage 2) Take a full Prevented Planting claim and not plant a crop on the ground until wheat in the fall at the earliest. Prevented Planting pays you 60% of your guarantee. 3) Take a partial Prevented Planting Payment (35% of full payment) and still plant and insure another crop on that ground this year. Alternate crop can not be planted until after the late-planting period for the crop that was prevented from planting and a yield plug will go into the APH database for the crop that was prevented from being planted. 4) Plant an alternate crop prior to the end of the late-planting period and forgo any Prevented Planting payment If you have been prevented from planting as many acres of a crop as you had intended, contact your Service Representative immediately and we can help you through this process.

CHOPPING SILAGE If you will be chopping any of your insured crops for silage, please contact your Service Rep at least 10 days before you think you will begin chopping. www.ag-risk-solutions.com

NOTES FROM THE FIELD MIKE CHARTIER—HIAWATHA, KS Planting around here is starting to wrap up and it's amazing the difference between this year and last! I'm very grateful to see the moisture back and hopeful that it will stay throughout the summer. Now that we are finishing up planting there are a few things left to do. After you take that well deserved break when you get done planting, remember to get your appointments set up at FSA. This is important this year because of the later planting our window is definitely shorter than it was last year. Also if you were wondering about adding Hail/Wind coverage give me a call so we can go over all the details. As always have a fun and safe summer and if you have any questions give me a call!

MIKE SCHERER—ATCHISON, KS After much delay throughout my area due to the cold wet weather, It looks as though most of the corn is in the ground and looking pretty good. Bean planting is progressing rapidly as I write this. It’s been crazy how different the Spring weather has been this year compared to 2012! Let’s hope that’s a good sign and the moisture and moderate temperatures continue into the summer. When you get your acres certified at FSA let me know so we can get those acres turned in on our end as well. Also, if you have not yet been able to plant all the corn you intended, contact me immediately so we can discuss your options.

JENNIFER FORANT—NORTONVILLE, KS After worry about wet weather causing late planting, corn rolled right along and the majority is in the ground and coming up. Beans are following quickly and this year’s planting season looks to go in with overall good conditions. We are still dry in this area and need timely rains to avoid a repeat of last years drought. As you finish planting remember to certify your acres with the FSA office as soon as possible and give me a call so we can verify those acres and get them turned in on your crop insurance for crop year 2013. Have a great summer and if you ever have any questions or need to report a loss give me a call! 3

KYLE KRIER—SALINA, KS As of right now, it looks as if our wheat is a few days behind schedule for a normal year. Some areas show a promising wheat crop sitting in the field, some show more amounts of stress. If there is any plan on making a decision to destroy/ chop/hay any wheat and NOT take it to harvest, contact me immediately. You cannot destroy any wheat without consent. After some timely rains, corn planting has finished and we continue to get closer to completion on soybeans. Grain sorghum is in the early stages of getting planted but has yet to take off. Make sure to know exactly what you have planted where, and when you planted it as we have to get acreage reports going soon. During this busy season, call me anytime if you have any questions whatsoever. Be safe, and I’ll see you all soon!

TONY ELIZONDO—MANHATTAN, KS It's been an interesting spring so far. Corn planting was delayed throughout all of my area, but most of it is finally in and up, and beans are not far behind. Hopefully we will continue to receive rains and the heat will be kinder to us this growing season. For the most part, the wheat still appears to have strong yield potential. It appears that the late freezes didn't do too much damage and the recent rains have been well received. As wheat harvest approaches, keep in mind that your guaranteed bushels can go up with the current price decline on revenue policies. Let me know if you think you are going to have production losses and I will keep you up to date on price movements and help monitor revenue losses. As always, be safe and call with any questions.

KURT SCHWARZ—LA CYGNE, KS Its amazing how extreme the weather conditions can be. A year ago we couldn’t buy a rain and this year we can’t give one away. It appears that most of my area will get 90% of their corn in the ground with a good stand and good emergence. As you wrap up bean planting it will be time to start planning your visit to the FSA office to report acres. Remember to get a copy of your Producer Print or have the FSA office email it to me that way we can efficiently and correctly get your acres down. As always be safe and have a great summer. www.ag-risk-solutions.com

REPLANT REMINDER Please remember that if you have to replant any insured crop an adjuster must inspect the affected acres and release them before you can replant, if you wish to be paid an indemnity. We recommend calling us as soon as you suspect that replanting may be necessary. We can get an adjuster there in plenty of time for you to replant.

WHEAT ISSUES As we enter wheat harvest please consider the following potential issues: Revenue Losses: As mentioned on page 1 it appears as though the Harvest Price for wheat is going to end up lower than the Base Price in 2013. This effectively increases your yield guarantee. You may end up having a claim due at yields higher than you would have expected at the beginning of the year. Please stay in contact with your Service Rep as you progress through harvest to keep them informed of the yields you are seeing. Freeze Damage: We know some parts of our territory did sustain significant damage to their wheat as a result of the late freezes we encountered. If you think you have freeze damage that could lead to claims or if you have wheat you are not sure you will harvest and you have not already contacted your Service Rep, please do so immediately! They will be able to get the claim process initiated and help you through any decisions you need to make. Hail & Wind Coverage: If you have what appears to be a good wheat crop in the field as of now, it may be prudent to look at adding hail and/or wind coverage on it. With the wild weather we have seen over the last couple weeks, the peace of mind provided by this coverage may be a wise investment. If you’d like to learn more about coverage options and prices for your area, contact your Service Rep. We have the ability to write this coverage with four different companies which allows us to look for the best coverage option and the best premium rate to meet your needs. And sometimes premium rates can vary drastically between companies!! 5
