2014 FALL SCHEDULE The Bowling Green State University men’s golf team will have a challenging fall slate in 2014, as the Falcons will tee-off in six different events with all six tournaments coming in different states. “I believe that this year’s 2014 fall schedule is the best I’ve put together yet,” stated head coach Kevin Farrell. “If we play well, we will shoot up in the rankings and people will finally give us the respect we deserve. It won’t be easy, but we will be competing against top teams such as N.C. State, Iowa state, Clemson, Oregon, Tennessee and Georgia.”

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! GO FALCONS! KEVIN FARRELL, MEN’S GOLF COACH & STEPHANIE YOUNG, WOMEN’S GOLF COACH

DREW PRESTON MOVES ON IN WEB.COM Q SCHOOL BGSU graduate and former men’s golfer Drew Preston recently made it through the first stage of the Web.com Qualifying School, as he looks to continue his professional career.

Below Drew Preston talks about his thoughts of advancing to the second stage of the Web.com Q School and what he plans to do next as he continues his professional career.

His thoughts about the first stage of the Web.com Qualifying School: > I had an idea of what to expect because of PGA Tour Canada qualifying school, so that put my mind at ease a little bit. Q school is always a long week regardless, so my coach, friends and I tried to make everything as relaxed as possible off the golf course. One shot can be the entire difference, every shot is so important and is mentally exhausting by the end of the week. On his play at the first stage of the Web.com Qualifing School: > Being my first time at the Web.com Q school, I did not know how difficult the first stage was, but I knew if I played good golf I would be okay. I feel confident after moving from stage one because I know I didn’t play my best there and have been working very hard in the time between first and second stage to be able to play the way I need to play to move past the second and final stage. On what is up next for his golf career: > My future depends obviously upon Qualifying school, but other than that I will play the winter in Orlando. I haven’t fully decided whether or not I will return to PGA Tour Canada, if that is a question, or do other things in the summer.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Mike Dzienny Bowling Green State University Class of 1983

Mike Dzienny played golf at BGSU from 1981-83. I’m an Attorney in Toledo, Ohio and have been in practice over 25 years. My practice is primarily representing and helping injured people along with some small business, real estate and probate legal matters. I’ve been married to my great wife Tara for 30 years and we have three talented children - Cassie-29, Nicklaus(go figure!)27, and Gracie-19. They all currently reside in different parts of California. My daughters are in the acting/modeling/dancing fields and my son works for a start-up company called Pricewiser in San Francisco. I still enjoy playing golf and carry a 5-6 handicap most of the time. I had many favorite moments at BG, but our team winning the MAC Championship in 1983 was the pinnacle. We came from behind at the Forrest Creason track and nipped Miami to win a trip to the NCAA’ s. I was fortunate enough to be the last player on the course and make a very lengthy putt that gave us the clincher by 1 stroke. The members that played in that 1983 Championship and the NCAA tourney were myself, Bradley Turner “Bradley T”(Co-Captain), Dan Connelly-”Sheephead”, Jean LaRochelle-”Frenchy”, Randy Stocke-”Stockman”, and Pat Shaw. Coach Piper and Coach Bonar were very instrumental in not only our golf accomplishments, but personal development as well. I stay in contact with several members of that team and all are doing well! I had various spots I liked hanging out at in BG. I played a lot of basketball at the rec center with Frenchy (Jean LaRochelle). We also frequented Poppi’s and Myles Pizza. Mark Poppi is still around, but the tavern went away and ended up being a bookstore now. I worked at the driving range through the summers and spent alot of time there as well. I also was night security for a couple of years going around and locking up the doors to the various University buildings at night. I’m truly blessed to have had the experiences I did thru my life at BG, the people I met, the golf comrades I was lucky enough to meet and play with, and the life long contacts made then and thereafter. Thanks again BG and Go Falcons!

Dear BGSU Golf Alumni and Fans, With the weather quickly turning colder, we are excited to be leaving for Hawaii in a few days! Thanks to donors like Pat McGohan and Mike McCullough (front cover) we are able to compete against strong competition like North Florida, Georgia, Clemson, and Oregon. At the beginning of the Fall the results were not what we expected, as we played tough competition and very difficult golf courses, and I think it really prepared us for the event in Vero Beach. We played great golf the first day (290, 289) on a golf course that has hosted many big state amateur events in Florida and U.S. Open Sectional qualifying. The course even has a course rating of 76.1! Although the 294 final round on the final day was not exactly how we wanted to finish, it was definitely the most positive moment of our Fall season so far. Hope to give everyone positive news from Hawaii! Finish your Fall golf seasons strong!
