2014-2015 TRYOUT INFORMATION Tryout Information:
Clinic: YOU MUST ATTEND ONE OF THE CLINICS TO TRYOUT! o Friday, April 25, 2014 from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm (Central Time) OR o Sunday, April 27, 2014 12:00 pm-2:00 pm (Central Time) in the South Gym of the Carr Health Building Tryouts: Sunday, April 27, 2014 from 3:00 pm-7:00 pm (Central Time) in the South Gym of the Carr Health Building
Both the Clinic and Tryout are MANDATORY for ALL PARTICIPANTS. There is a $20 registration fee for all participants. This payment can be mailed in (checks only) with your application form or brought the day of clinic (checks or cash only). Checks may be made payable to Murray State University. Tryout Application: All who plan to tryout need to fill out the Application Form and mail in by Friday, April 18, 2014. Please make sure you send in a photo of yourself and registration fee along with your application. All forms including application, Waiver and Physical MUST be turned in for participant to be eligible for clinic and tryout. SELECTION PROCESS The selection process will include group performance(s), skill(s) tryout, interview and an evaluation by the staff. Prospective squad members will be judged on the following criteria: motions, stunting ability, tumbling, sideline, cheer, fight song, spontaneity, and above all THE ABILITY TO MOTIVATE THE CROWD! Tryout Requirements and Evaluation:
Interview Attitude, commitment and enthusiasm demonstrated during tryout Appearance Toe Touch & Optional Jump 1 Running Tumbling Pass (minimum round off series-three back handsprings) Standing Back Handspring (required) Standing Back Tuck (optional, but highly encouraged for additional points) Standing Back Handspring, Back Tuck (optional for additional points) Fight Song, Sideline Cheer, Stunts (minimum liberty, stretch, scale)
Clinic and Tryout Attire: Wear Gold or Navy shorts and a Navy, Gold or White T-shirt both without logos other than Murray State. Please wear hair half up with a bow. Plain, white cheerleading shoes are required and white socks are preferred. APPEARANCES AND PERFORMANCES The Murray State Cheerleaders will cheer for all home football games and all home basketball games. The squad does not travel to away football or basketball games with the exception of post-season competition (Ohio Valley Conference Tournament or NCAA Tournament). Determination on travel parties will be made by the coach in consultation with the cheer advisor. Attendance at home games over periods of fall, winter and spring breaks shall be mandatory. PRACTICES Practices are mandatory and will be set by the coach after review of squad members’ schedules. Participation in cheer is expected to take precedent over other non-academic activities, including club/organization membership or work activities. CAMP The Murray State Cheerleaders will host a cheer camp which will be mandatory. As soon as dates are set the team will be informed.
